Department Profile
The department of Art and Design is one of four departments within the Division of Fine Arts and Communications at Cerritos College. The department has a broad scope of course offerings, including drawing, painting, 2D and 3D design, ceramics, computer graphics, graphic design, and art history. In addition to teaching, Art and Design Faculty also mentor students and provide leadership for students clubs that support exhibitions, activities, and events on campus. The Cerritos College Art Gallery presents exhibitions that feature local, national, and international artists. In addition to offering a transfer degree with emphasis in ceramics, drawing and painting, printmaking, or graphic design. The department also offers an Associate Arts in Digital Arts with either motion graphics or computer animation as an emphasis. A certificate in Computer Animation is available, as well as Verifications of Completion in Desktop Publishing/Journalism, Digital Graphics Foundation, Digital Layout Foundation, Lettering Arts, Motion graphics and 3D Animation Foundation. The department also offers an Associate in Arts for Transfer in Art History and an Associate for Arts in Visual and Cultural Studies.
The successful candidate will ideally have an academic concentration in Art History/Visual Studies with a knowledge of and ability to apply art historical theories and methodologies.

Minimum Qualifications
Master’s in art history, history of art and architecture or visual culture/visual studies OR Bachelor’s in art history and master’s in history OR Master’s in art with a recorded emphasis or concentration in art history OR the equivalent
Understanding of and sensitivity to meeting the needs of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic background of the student, community, and employee population.
Preferred Qualifications
Community College Teaching Experience and/or four-year college/university teaching experience.
Specialization in one or more of the following areas: Arts of Asia, the Americas, Africa and the African diaspora.
Ability to teach the World Art Survey and/or ability to teach Introduction to Media Studies.
Engagement with art historical theories and methodologies.
Interest in teaching in the Early College Program.

Physical Demands
Physical requirements may be met with or without reasonable accommodations. Requires ambulatory ability to move to various office and classroom-type locations and to stand, bend, stoop, and reach to setup equipment and provide instruction. Requires sufficient hand eye coordination and dexterity to write on a board or type on a computer. Requires sufficient visual acuity to read documents and make presentations. Requires sufficient auditory ability to project voice to a group, hear questions and prompts, and carry on routine conversations. Requires the ability to lift, push, and pull objects of medium weight (less than 30 lbs.) on an occasional basis.
Conditions of Employment
Assignments are contingent upon sufficient funding and enrollment.
Assignments may include day, evening, and/or weekend classes. Individual who is offered employment shall be required to obtain fingerprints for a criminal history clearance through the State Department of Justice and remit the required fee for processing the fingerprints, produce an original social security card, and submit negative TB test results (must be within the past four years or within the last 60 days if not previously employed in a school district in California) before employment.
Faculty must be able to teach on-campus or remotely as assigned.
Proof of eligibility to work in the United States and signing of loyalty oath per Government Codes 3100-3109.
Board Policy 2905 requires mandatory COVID-19 vaccinations as a condition of employment.
