Summary
The Professional Castellow Adult Learning Center (CALC) Instructor conducts Adult Basic Education
(ABE) and High School Equivalency (HSE) classes, student advising and student recruitment for the Castellow Adult Learning Center. The CALC
offers assessment and instruction in reading, writing, science, social studies, and math for students pursuing a high school equivalency
certificate. ABE, Citizenship, and English as a Second Language (ESL) classes are also offered.
Note: This is a grant-funded
position.
Responsibilities
CALC instructors teach classes for Catellow Adult Learning Center
students using appropriate teaching methods; preparing teaching materials and syllabi; accessing and evaluating student progress; scheduling
standardized tests and reporting scores; maintaining accurate and adequate records; establishing regular office hours; conducting new
student orientation; attending training and meetings; obtaining and retaining certifications; and conducting outreach.
CALC
instructors perform other related duties as assigned, including, but not limited to, distance education, advising students; serving on
committees; participating in CALC meetings; providing program budget recommendations; participating in the development of program curricula;
and adhering to all institutional and federal/state policies and guidelines. CALC instructors remain current with the adult education field
by reading literature, communicating with colleagues, and participating in professional development.

Work Environment
The typical work environment is a classroom and office setting requiring normal safety
precautions. Work is usually performed during the normal workweek including regular daytime and evening hours and occasional early mornings
and weekends. This position frequently works with the public and students. Short periods of time will be spent outdoors travelling between
campus buildings in various weather conditions. Outreach sites may require additional travel. Noise levels are usually minimal.
Physical Demands
Employee must be able to stand for long periods, speak, hear, use hands and fingers to
handle materials and use computer, feel and reach with hands and arms. Occasional lifting of up to 10 pounds may be required; less frequent
lifting/moving of 20 lbs (paper boxes, office supplies, classroom materials, etc.). Visual requirements require close-up, distance, and
ability to adjust focus.
