GUARDIAN SCHOLARS SOCIAL WORKER

Student Life/Guardian Scholars
Salary Range: $5025 – $7159/Monthly
Work Schedule: Full-Time, Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.; exempt classification.
Essential Functions: Under the general supervision of the Director of Guardian Scholars, the Social Worker will be responsible for providing case management services for the entire Cal State LA Foster Youth population. The incumbent will: conduct one-on-one and group case management meetings; submit referrals to campus and community resources based on student needs by working with county representatives; and provide workshops for the foster youth student population. This position will act as a liaison between the Guardian Scholars Program and government organizations. Additionally, this position will remain informed of all legislation impacting foster youth at the child welfare level. The Social Worker will also inform other Guardian Scholars personnel of new policies and procedures relating to foster youth at the child welfare level that may have an impact on current and prospective Foster Youth Guardian Scholars participants.
Required Qualifications & Experience: Equivalent to graduation from an accredited four-year college or university in Social or Behavioral Sciences, Counseling, Education, Social Work, Student Affairs, or a related field. Equivalent of three years of progressively responsible professional student services work experience. A master’s degree in Counseling, Clinical Psychology, Social Work, or a directly related field may be substituted for one year of experience. A doctorate degree and the appropriate internship or clinical training in counseling or guidance may be substituted for the three years of experience. Demonstrated success working with diverse, low-income, first-generation, underrepresented, and underserved populations. The incumbent must have a demonstrated interest and/or ability in working in a multicultural/multiethnic environment. A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily before any candidate can be offered a position with the CSU. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the application status of applicants or continued employment of current CSU employees who may apply for the position.
California State University, Los Angeles, as part of the CSU system, is a State of California Employer. Desired Qualifications: Working knowledge of Golden Eagle Territory (GET) and Student Success Collaborative (EAB). Working knowledge of the basic principles of individual and group behavior. Working understanding of the Guardian Scholars Program and its guiding principles. Working understanding of current policy, procedure, and legal mandates related to California State University (CSU) system-based, Cal State LA admissions, and academic advisement practices.
