Primary Function: The Senior Account position works with the accounting manager, Controller, and CFO in the footprint to perform month-end closing processes, reporting, acquisitions, and assist with daily transaction workload. This position leads teams and manages the work of others.
Primary Responsibilities:
Assists with the month-end closing process and be able to assist or perform as needed any of the transactional work usually performed by the Accountant and Accounting Associates
Prepares accurate, compliant and timely balance sheet reconciliations and is generally the point person for a region’s portion of the overall footprint reconciliations.
Files and pays surplus lines taxes as required by the state.
Performs research and analyzes data as needed including running and distributing reports, helping with the internal and external audits and reviewing compliance for SOX and regulatory requirements.
Assists in acquisitions including conversions and managing acquired staff personnel as needed.
Analyzes and processes all incoming funds and ensures accuracy of application to proper accounts including preparing a daily check log for incoming checks.
Monitors incoming carrier payments received for accuracy and correct commission structure.
Manages all insurance carrier invoices and statements for receipt of client payment and timely payment to carrier
Reconciliation of insurance carrier invoices or statements against client accounts
Reconciliation of client accounts, as needed and process client credits upon completion of reconciliation for accuracy
Timely payments to vendors and employees with allocations to proper general ledger accounts and cost centers
Ensures accurate payroll processing of sales professional and broker commissions
Creates recurring or one-off auxiliary reports as requested by management
Provides assistance to colleagues with client or carrier accounting questions, as needed
Trains insurance colleagues on accounting procedures, as needed
Maintains required data in the agency management system and electronic filing system according to agency guidelines
Maintains financial security by adhering to internal controls
Protects organization’s value by keeping information confidential
Flexibility of work hours and ability to work overtime during peak times.
Other duties as assigned.
Regular and reliable attendance required.
Qualifications:
Education/Designations
Degree in Accounting or Business required
Skill Requirements
Experience and proficiency using Microsoft Word and Excel and/or G Suite products including Gmail, Docs word processing, Sheets, and Drive cloud storage
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Organizational and time management skills
Ability to work in a team environment
Projects professional appearance and manner
Self-starter with the ability to be flexible
High attention to detail
Work Experience
Minimum of 5 years accounting experience required
Physical Requirements
Must be able to communicate effectively with clients, sales professionals, carriers, and staff
Ability to stand or sit at a workstation during a standard workday
Ability to operate a computer and other office productivity machineries, such as a calculator, copy machine and printer
Ability to move about the office to access office machinery and supplies
Mental Requirements
Ability to work and meet challenging deadlines and expectations
Job entails meticulous attention to detail
Must perform well with frequent interruptions or distractions
Ability to quickly adjust priorities, focus, and direction as circumstances dictates
