Bushnell Overview:
Bushnell University is a Christian, private, liberal-arts, comprehensive university closely
affiliated with the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) and the Christian Churches/Churches of Christ – approximately fifteen
percent of students are from these two church bodies. Bushnell also has an ecumenical interest and offers its resources to students and
congregations of many church traditions. The University was founded in 1895 and is accredited by the Northwest Commission on Colleges and
Universities. Located in the city of Eugene, Oregon – population 145,000 (one hour from the Coast, one hour from the Cascade Mountains,
ninety minutes south of Portland). Bushnell enrolls an approximate undergraduate and graduate student body of 800 students (300
residential).
Job Summary:
The Dean of Students serves as a primary administrative contact and advocate for
students in undergraduate, online-undergraduate, and graduate programs with the charge to provide services and programs that enhance the
overall student experience at Bushnell.
Under the direction of the President, the Dean of Students shall serve as the
institution’s chief student development/judicial officer and Title IX Coordinator and plan, organize, and provide direct leadership to
comprehensive student development programs including: Athletics and Student Life (Campus Ministry, Residence Life, Student Programs,
Counseling and Wellness, Campus Dining, Beacon Beanery, and Security).
As a member of the University’s Cabinet, the Dean of
Students will lead the Division of Student Development towards the achievement of institutional effectiveness and the implementation of the
University’s strategic plan.
Position Duties and Responsibilities:
Experience and Qualification Requirements:
Master’s Degree in College Student Personnel or related field
(doctorate preferred) and five to seven years increasingly responsible experience in student development.
Knowledge of planning,
organization, and direction of assigned comprehensive student development programs including athletics, residence life, student programs,
campus ministry, leadership development, advisement, judicial affairs; college policies, procedures and trends related to student
development; training, management, and coordination of development programs; title ix; emergency management; operation of a computer and
applicable software; University mission, goals and objectives; budget preparation and control; oral and written communication skills;
principles and practices of administration, supervision and training; applicable laws, codes, regulations, policies and procedures;
interpersonal skills using tact, patience and courtesy; and record-keeping techniques.
