Job Summary
Reporting to the Director of
Multicultural Student Engagement, the Assistant Director will facilitate the peer mentoring program to retain first-year students from
underrepresented identities through intentional, personalized activities to assist with the transition into Augusta University. With a focus
on student success, this position will also be responsible for the African American Male Initiative leadership development program,
facilitating the Diversity Peer Educator Program, and advising registered cultural student organizations. The Assistant Director will also
assist in and/or supervise the development and execution of diversity, equity, and inclusion education and support for students. Lastly, the
Assistant Director will serve as an instructor for sections of Inquiry 1000, LDRS 2000, and LDRS 3000 specific to the mentorship programs
housed within MSE.
Responsibilities
The duties included, but not limited to:
Coordinate
the Multicultural Mentorship Program (MMP) for first-year underrepresented students with a focus upon academic, personal, and social needs
by leading the coordination of:
Recruit, select, and train MMP Mentors. Serve as the primary instructor for LDRS 2000, LDRS 3000, and
Inquiry 1000 sections specific to MMP participants. Create educational programming for underrepresented students to facilitate student
success. Develop, implement, and evaluate learning opportunities that focus on guiding students
guided by Four to Finish principles.
Implement quantitative and qualitative assessments to illustrate the MMP’s impact on student success.
Supervise (2) MSE
Graduate Assistants, (4) MMP Lead Mentors, and (4) AAMI Lead Mentors
Recruit, select, and train Graduate Assistants, Multicultural
Mentorship Program Mentors, and AAMI Program Mentors. Plan and implement retreats for the MMP and AAMI. Direct the work of the Student
Assistants and MMP mentors during the school year. Evaluate the performance of employees.
Collaborate with the Director to
lead the African American Male Initiative Program
Plans and implements academic and co-curricular programming for AAMI participants
in collaboration with student support units and academic programs across campus. Implements an intervention and success program which
provides academic support services and connects students to campus resources to improve academic performance. Conducts research and
assessment using best practices and bench-marking for innovative initiatives serving African American men students. Serve as the primary
instructor for LDRS 2000, LDRS 3000, and Inquiry 1000 sections specific to AAMI participants.
Facilitate and advise the
Diversity Peer Education (DPE) program
Recruit and train Diversity Peer Educators to conduct inclusivity, belonging, and student
leadership development workshops such as Safespace and Ally Trainings. Empower student leaders to assist in the development of cultural
competence training.
Initiate belonging and community for students through advising cultural student
organizations
Advise students in planning, producing, assessing programs, and negotiating contractual offers with agents. Serves as a
campus advocate, coach, and resource for multicultural student organizations in collaboration with Student Life and Engagement. Provides
training, resources, and support for advisors of multicultural student organizations. Implement quantitative and qualitative assessments to
illustrate student organization involvement in student success.
Assist in developing, implementing, and assessing signature
campus-wide programming initiatives, including cultural awareness, cross-cultural learning, celebrations, and heritage
months
Provides outreach, programs, services, resources, and initiatives that assist underrepresented students in their successful
transition to, progress and success through, and graduation. Collaborate with various departments and units at the University to ensure key
information is disbursed to students through these campus-wide programs.

Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree from accredited college of University in related field
and a minimum of three years of relevant experience; with two years of direct experience working with students in a higher education setting
and evidence of dedication to working with underrepresented and marginalized students is required.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience building collaborative relationships with campus partners. Must be willing to become a member of NASPA or
ACPA.

Shift/Salary/Benefits
Shift: Days/M-F (Work outside of normal business hours may be required)
Pay
Grade: 15
Salary: $38,913 – Midpoint: $52,533
Salary to be commensurate with qualifications of the selected candidate within the
established range (generally minimum midpoint) of the position.
