Job Description
Facilities Development and Management seeks a Utility Locator to perform technical work identifying, locating, and marking buried underground utilities using industry standard equipment in accordance with Arizona Revised Statute § 40-360.21-32.
Salary Range
$26.44 per hour or commensurate of experience and education. ASU offers a comprehensive benefits package with the State of Arizona.

Tasks are typically performed alone; an employee in this class is expected to exercise considerable initiative and judgment in moving efficiently through the day’s work assignments. Tasks may be performed in hazardous traffic. Regularly required to operate a variety of utility locating equipment and tools requiring extended periods of walking over potentially uneven rocky surfaces, bending, reaching, lifting and pushing or pulling objects of varying weights up to 100 pounds to perform the work. Some activities are performed in an environmentally controlled office setting subject to periods of sitting, keyboarding and manipulating a computer mouse. Must possess sufficient visual acuity required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. While performing the duties of the job, the employee is frequently required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; talk or hear and smell. Sufficient body flexibility, mobility, stamina, and balance to perform maintenance and repair operations that require bending, stooping, kneeling, stretching, and other physical exertions working in trenches, climbing and working on ladders, and moving over rough or unfamiliar terrain. Activities regularly require long periods of exposure to external elements indigenous to a desert environment, such as extreme heat, occasional wet and moderately cold conditions; moving mechanical parts; may be exposed to hazardous and dangerous conditions, materials, tools and equipment which will require safety precautions and/or specific processes to be followed, and may include the use of Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) (e.g. safety glasses, hearing protection, negative pressure and positive pressure respirator). Use of PPE may require medical clearance prior to use.

This position is located at the University Services Building, 1551 S. Rural Road, Tempe, AZ (on Rural Road south of Apache Blvd).
This position requires that you must possess a valid Arizona driver’s license (minimum of Class D) upon employment and maintain throughout employment. Post-offer of employment, selected candidate must possess an acceptable driving record which is 5 or fewer points in the most recent 39 month period from date of hire.
Must pass pre-employment physical examination post offer of employment.
