The People & Culture Director will pioneer all aspects of our talent strategy including policies, programs, and daily activities to support our teams, ensure legal compliance (with the help of General Counsel) and bring our values to life. Initial priorities are Performance Management, Talent Acquisition, Training and Compliance. As a Brand Ambassador of People and Culture, advocates for the continual improvement of the employee experience. This position will report to the Chief Operating Officer (COO) and have support from General Counsel for legal updates, interpretation, and compliance. This position will manage the Human Resources team.
This exciting, energetic, person with a “Can-Do” attitude will be responsible for the following Essential Functions as well as other related needs of our team.
1. Support the COO and their direct reports by bridging communication gaps and helping execute company and people initiatives.
2. Conduct weekly meetings with respective business units across individual contributors and leadership.
3. Assists department management in determining staffing needs. Recommends and implements recruiting, hiring and retention strategies for unit.
4. Works with the HR staff to reviews resumes and screens appropriate applicants. Facilitates interview process. Conducts reference checks on potential employees. Ensures new hire paperwork is processed.
5. Maintains friendly, efficient, positive customer service attitude toward customers, clients, and co-workers.
6. Consult with the different units of the company providing HR guidance when appropriate proving HR policy guidance and interpretation.
7. Analyze trends and metrics in partnership with the HR group to develop solutions, programs, and policies.
8. Manage and resolve complex employee relations issues. Conduct effective, thorough, and objective investigations.
9. Obtain legal updates from General Counsel and maintain knowledge of legal requirements related to day-to-day management of employees, reducing legal risks, and ensuring regulatory compliance.
10. Ensures unit complies with all federal, state, and local laws, regulations and guidelines concerning human resources (i.e., Federal and State Minimum Wage Laws, Affirmative Action, Immigration Reform Control Act, Equal Employment Opportunity Act, FMLA, ADEA, ADA etc.).
11. Provide day-to-day performance management guidance to management (e.g., coaching, counseling, career development, disciplinary actions).
12. Develops and implements policies, processes, training, and surveys to support the organization’s human resource compliance and strategy needs.
13. Administers human resource programs including, compensation, benefits, and leave; disciplinary matters; disputes and investigations; productivity, recognition, and morale; and training and development.
14. Proactively explores trends, best practices, and new technologies in human resources, and talent management.
Qualifications
1. Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Industrial/Organizational Psychology, or related field required; Master’s degree preferred.
2. Minimum 3-5 year’s experience in a Human Resource Management role required.
3. This is a hands-on, fast paced environment which will require an individual with experience working with multiple managers across multiple locations and a very large hourly workforce.
4. Experience supporting at least 200 employees (temporary, full-time and/or contract).
5. Heavy recruiting, employee relations and dispute resolution experience required.
6. Requires current hands-on experience with applicable Federal, State, and Local regulatory compliance and laws.
7. Strong leadership skills required.
8. An expert at delivering high quality feedback including coaching and developing others.
9. Thrives in healthy conflict and trust building and possess emotional intelligence.
10. Energized by setting goals and driving results independently.
11. Adaptable and resilient with a willingness to grow.
12. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, as well as a high attention to detail.

15. Ability to drive to our Illinois based offices on a weekly basis and our Wisconsin and Indiana offices on a quarterly bases (have a valid driver license and insurance).
