Job Summary: *

This position is the technical lead for all IT and data center functions for a large broadband carrier. This includes technical leadership for a very large in-house VM cluster, as well as a large number of independent element management systems. Technology includes x86, VM, Sparc, Windows, RHEL, and SunOS/Solaris. The Director is also responsible for the day-to-day IT functions in supporting company IT needs, other system and application team’s infrastructure, database administration, superior helpdesk support, field applications and equipment and catch all for IT Governance; while helping define standards and establishing migration strategies along with a transitional operating strategy to develop into a fast-paced and evolving company. Must be hands on, while also being a leader in driving to build a critical support organization to help other IT organizations and business units support the end customer.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: *

The Essential Duties and Responsibilities listed below are a range of duties performed by the employee and not intended to reflect all duties performed:

• Leads technical direction for all computing systems including IBM AS/400, x86 VM clusters, Sparc and Sun hardware and include operating systems Windows, RHEL/UNIX variants, SunOS/Solaris.
• Project management for corporate initiatives – manage projects from conceptual stage through to launch including budget tracking, reporting and ongoing operational excellence.
• Spearhead key initiatives with process and system design, implementation and tactical involvement supporting teams for success.
• Actively and continually support and simplify the customer experience through automation, superior support services and building a customer friendly and focused team.
• Support key internal and field facing organization through equipment, helpdesk and making IT systems, processes and infrastructure work for the business and not against.
• Meet with the various stakeholders to identify improvement opportunities, while being challenged with creating new undefined processes, resolutions and continually looking to simplify and improve the company’s ability to provide superior services.
• Lead and sponsor new development and migration activities.
• Oversee capital budget process and planning within organization.
• Leads and champions the development of a “go-to” organization that helps internal customers do their job better and simplifies the IT experience through process communication and ease of operation.
• Oversees software maintenance and hosting services for functional areas of responsibility.
• Provide technical and operational expertise and support.
• Mentor, coach and develop future leaders and technical SME’s (subject matter experts).
• Must be available to work regular business hours Pacific Standard Time.
• Must also be available to work on-call, evenings and weekends as needed.
• Performs other duties as required to support the business and evolving organization.

Qualifications:

• Demonstrated leadership skills at equivalent or similar level of responsibility.
• Minimum of seven years of software and customer facing systems experience.
• Ability to lead and drive system, applications and data migration projects.
• Ability to coach and mentor developing leaders and aspiring super stars.
• In depth knowledge of IT systems, processes, helpdesk and building an IT “go to” team.
• Knowledge of service provider field operations applications, equipment and ability to provide the tools and process that are needed when required.
• Familiar with hosted, SaaS and internally supported applications.
• Familiar with hypervisor platforms, AWS and Azure are added benefits.
• Team leader of organization and collaborative team player within IT organization.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or business management degree with technology experience required.

Work is performed in an office setting with exposure to computer screens and requires extensive use of a computer, keyboard, mouse, and multi-line telephone system. The work is primarily a modern office setting.
