More About the Role:
Leidos is seeking a Lab Support Engineer to support related efforts for SMIT, the largest IT services program for the Navy. Under the Service Management, Integration, and Transport (SMIT), Leidos team will deliver the core backbone of the Navy-Marine Corps Intranet (NMCI), including cybersecurity services, network operations, service desk, and data transport. Ultimately, the Leidos team will support the Navy in unifying its shore-based networks and data management to improve capability and service while also saving significant dollars by focusing efforts under one enterprise network. The successful candidate will support planning, designing, and maintaining service supported in the NEN lab facilities.
What You’ll Get to Do:
The Lab Support Engineer will be responsible for maintaining the Navy Enterprise Network labs located in St. Louis and San Diego.
- Carry out system administration tasks such as software installation/updates, security patches, and hardware maintenance.
- Install and configure, switch configuration, port assignments, cable changes.
- Assist with and maintain system documentation and network diagrams.
- Provide support in the use of protocol analyzers and network test equipment.
- Assist engineering teams with investigations to properly identify root cause and implement appropriate corrective and preventative actions to prevent reoccurrence.
- Monitor the environmental conditions of a data center to ensure they are optimum for servers, routers, and other devices.
- Work with engineering teams to understand useful metrics to collect and implement monitoring and alerting with existing monitoring solutions at the datacenter level.
- Support continual improvement of systems and processes and propose improvement activities.
- Create and maintain network systems diagrams and configuration documentation; provide network configuration management support to facilitate maintenance activities.
- Maintain security devices such as firewalls, intrusion detection systems, cryptographic devices, and routers to optimize performance and ensure the desired security posture is attained and maintained.
- Provide capacity management metrics and executive summaries in line with the established Datacenter roadmaps.
- Coordinating and scheduling all routine preventative maintenance along with emergency repairs of critical support equipment.
- Assisting in implementing service methodologies that include incident management, problem management, change management, capacity management.
- Strong knowledge on Networking, subnets, VLAN both physical and virtual platforms.
You’ll Bring These Qualifications:
- Requires BS and 4-8 years of prior relevant experience or Masters with 2-6 years of prior relevant experience.
- Five (5) or more years’ experience on programs and contracts of similar scope, type, and complexity.
- Must be a U.S. Citizen and be able to qualify for a Secret clearance to start the program.
- Hands-on experience in working with DoD network infrastructure.
- Ability to multi-task, self-assign work in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
- Motivated self-starter with ability to lead and work in a matrix organization and communicate effectively with peers, subordinates and program leadership.
- Strong analytical, communication and troubleshooting skills that enable proactive and effective collaboration with a virtual team, including the ability to clearly articulate status and present to both customers and program leadership.
- Demonstrated experience in troubleshooting Cisco Networking LAN/WAN and wireless systems and control software.
- Experience in collaborating with other enterprise technologists both internal and external to resolve complex technical issues.
- Travel may be required.
- After hours and weekend support and/or alternative work schedules are required at various points in the year.
These Qualifications Would be Nice to Have:
- Experience working on DoD programs, specifically Navy programs.
- Bachelor’s degree in System Engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering Science, Engineering Management, or related discipline from an accredited college or university.
- Experience developing SE artifacts in multiple systems development paradigms and methodologies.
- Certifications:
- Security+.
- ITIL.
Pay Range:
Pay Range $65,000.00 – $100,000.00 – $135,000.00
The Leidos pay range for this job level is a general guideline only and not a guarantee of compensation or salary. Additional factors considered in extending an offer include (but are not limited to) responsibilities of the job, education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity, alignment with market data, applicable bargaining agreement (if any), or other law.
