The essential job functions of this position require the AVP to: communicate and build working relationships with faculty and other individuals from diverse backgrounds; abide by University regulations and guidelines; maintain confidentiality; prioritize and manage work effectively; provide exceptional customer service, and positively represent the university; ensure work is detailed and accurate; perform work in a sedentary position; report to meetings at different locations both on campus and off campus; interact with individuals from various levels throughout the university, and within the local community and state; and work successfully in a team as well as independently. This position will require occasional travel as needed per business requirements.
Shift
Monday – Friday 8:00 am-5:00 pm occasional nights/weekends as workload demands/occasional travel.
Job Summary
The Office for Institutional Diversity and the Office of the Provost are seeking an outstanding professional for the Associate Vice President/Associate Vice Provost for Diverse Faculty Success. The occupant of this position would be appointed as a faculty member but would work in an administrative capacity with some opportunity to continue in their disciplinary work (e.g., teaching or research) if desired.
This highly visible position will be committed to enhancing a diverse and inclusive environment for all the University’s academic areas. This position will work collaboratively with the VP, Office of Institutional Diversity and Provost on all matters related to diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) which includes guiding, supporting and enhancing the recruitment, hiring, and retention of diverse faculty, overseeing the diversity incentive fund, and community engagement. This position will work closely with the Office for Faculty Advancement to support and enhance faculty tenure and promotion, faculty development, and faculty recognition. In alignment with the University’s strategic plan, this position will continue to build and develop guidelines that support the University’s commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion. This individual will be a dynamic, visible leader within the University and externally collaborating with various partners to build a diverse educational environment and promote a climate of inclusive excellence.
Given the COVID-19 pandemic, and the need to protect our university community including our students, staff, faculty and visitors, the University of Kentucky is requiring COVID-19 vaccination for all new hires prior to starting employment. Therefore, as of October 18, 2021, all new hires prior to their first day of employment must submit appropriate documentation showing, i) completion of the first vaccination against COVID-19, or ii) completion of the full vaccination series against COVID-19, or iii) approved exemption (medical contraindications or a sincerely held religious belief) through the formal exemption process from the COVID-19 vaccination requirement. For those employees who have completed the first vaccination against COVID-19 prior to their first day of employment, the second vaccination (if applicable) must be completed following the vaccination recommended schedule to be considered fully vaccinated.
Skills / Knowledge / Abilities
The Associate Vice President/Associate Vice Provost for Diverse Faculty Success will possess experience developing effective diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives for faculty and have excellent interpersonal and written communication skills and abilities that inspire and influence others. The ideal candidate will be a proven diplomatic and collaborative leader who will bring relevant knowledge, expertise and experience to the academic community and have a demonstrated commitment to valuing and respecting diversity in administration, through scholarship or from work experiences that demonstrate a sophisticated understanding of how to navigate issues inherent to inclusion, equity and diversity within a complex institutional setting. The ideal candidate must show evidence of being a visionary leader that is outcome and assessment-oriented with a keen focus on strategic management and program development, along with extensive knowledge about academic life, institutional diversity action plans, and campus climate surveys. This individual must consistently demonstrate and encourage a commitment to inclusive excellence, quality, exceptional service, productivity and continuous improvement. We are seeking a confident, highly motivated individual with a strong critical and analytical mindset and a demonstrated ability to influence change, make decisions and build collaborative partnerships and productive relationships.

Ability to be tenured at UK and hold rank of Professor (preferred) or Associate Professor in their discipline. 3-5 years of leading faculty programs/initiatives, faculty recruitment, development and retention and /or community engagement
