Department Summary
The UNT Career Center is the centralized career office responsible for the career development and employment of all UNT students and alumni. It has responsibility for all Student Employment, Internships, and Post-Graduate Employment of UNT students.
Position Overview
Due to the impacts of COVID, the job market is rapidly changing, and students are in need of greater job preparation support. Students have identified that COVID has changed their intended career focus and/or the workforce needs for their chosen profession has changed because of the pandemic. These changes for students include the desire to serve others and/or the desire to identify a vocation that allows for more work/life balance. Additionally, the workforce changes include the need to work remotely as well as how positions are hired. Students are in need of better training and support to adjust to a virtual hiring process. Because of this need, UNT is hiring more career coaches to embed in the colleges to enhance support and provide more personal outreach to students. The increase in career coaches allows more students to have individualized attention that helps prepare them for these changes.
For this position, the Career Center at the University of North Texas is seeking to hire a Student Services Coordinator (Career Coach) to join the College of Science team. Responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to:
Minimum Qualifications
Master’s Degree in related field and two years of student services, student affairs, counseling, advising, or related experience; or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Job Duties
Interface with students as they seek guidance concerning employment, career development, internships and career related issues.
Create and maintain mentoring program for online and in person delivery. Set mentoring goals for different student populations.
Promote student engagement in the college. For example, offer activities such as student events at the College of Science.
Assist students in finding internships, research opportunities, fellowships and scholarships within the college, university, or outside opportunities. Be well-versed on rules for OPT/CPT and other laws relevant to international student employment rules and requirements. Communicate expectations for professionalism in seeking related opportunities.
Contribute to website content and social media for student success alongside COS communication specialist and webmaster.
Analyze student’s career paths, initiate career assessments, provide advice on resume development, interview preparation, and offer internship and job search resources.
Develop and conduct workshops and seminars on a variety of topics, assess their effectiveness and implement changes needed to engage and enhance student preparedness for the workplace.
Develop ongoing relationship with faculty, staff and administration working with the College of Science student population and provide content and support for the integration of career-related education into curriculum.
Work cooperatively with faculty and the Career Center Employer Development and Outreach Team to utilize more companies and alumni from a broad range of industries to engage with students on campus.
Contribute to reports on the statistical data for all student engagement and programming for assigned area(s) of responsibility to be used by the Career Center data collection and reporting team.
