Responsibilities
Valdosta
State University (VSU), located in South Georgia, enrolls more than 10,000 students each year and has a residential population of 2,300. The
City of Valdosta was named ESPN’s Title Town USA for the long history of athletic championships at Valdosta State and the local school
systems. In addition to sports and recreation being an active part of community life, Valdosta/Lowndes is home of Wild Adventures Theme,
Water, and Animal park offering year-around entertainment and a summer concert series with nationally known music performers. Lowndes County
schools are highly ranked in the state of Georgia rounding out the community as a great place to live, work, and play.
The Director
of Housing and Residence Life is responsible for the leadership and direction for the business affairs, recruitment and occupancy
management, facility oversight, and residence life activities at Valdosta State University. Additional responsibilities include community
development, student development, and supervision, administration, and implementation of organizational initiatives. The Housing portfolio
includes 7 residence halls (8 residential buildings) offering a variety of traditional, suite-style, and apartment living spaces for 2,300
residents.
Reporting to the Vice President for Student Affairs, the Director provides strategic leadership and supervision of office
employees: 2-Associate Directors, 2-Area Coordinators, 2- Central Support Staff, and a number of graduate student Resident Hall Directors
and central office student support. The Director is expected to maintain effective and collaborative relationships with relevant members of
the University and greater community to include Public Safety, Student Conduct, Academic Affairs, Office of Legal Affairs, Human Resources
and state and local police. This includes establishing and following a set of processes and internal controls that align policy and
procedures to remain compliant with laws governing housing and operational best practices. The Director will conduct an annual review and
modification of department policies and manuals and is responsible for advancing and assessing efforts in alignment with divisional
strategic priorities.
The Director works closely with the Assistant Vice President for Finance and Administration/Director of
Auxiliary Services on budget planning, 5-year business planning, 10-year financial analysis, and prioritizing major repair and renovation of
housing facilities owned by the Auxiliary Foundation through a Public-Private Partnership (PPV). The Director must be a good steward of a
multi-million dollar operating budget established through room rate revenues.
The University System of Georgia, CGL Companies, and
Valdosta State have entered a unique partnership providing third-party service to maintenance and custodial operations. The Director is
responsible for overseeing the campus service agreement, setting and assessing key performance indicators, and managing budget and spending,
while ensuring contractual obligations are met for timely response to maintenance needs, preventative maintenance, standard of cleaning, and
resident satisfaction.
The Director will ensure full utilization of software systems needed to operate successfully.
Required Experience
Bachelor’s degree in a specified field and five (5) years of related work experience in
a related field is required. Terminal degree and/or professional licensure, certification, and/or designation may be required in some
areas.

Position Requires completion of VSU’s Annual
Compliance Training course (such as State Business Transactions, Drug Free Workplace, Anti-Harassment Policy, Introduction to Information
Security, Workers Compensation, Motor Vehicle Policy, USG Ethics Policy, Conflict of Interest/ Outside Activities Policy, Leave
Procedures for Faculty and Staff, Georgia Open Records Act, Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), and Contracts 101.
Supervisory positions require training in FMLA and Worker’s Compensation.
