Summary of Job Duties:
The
primary objective of the Director of Sponsored Student and Special Programs is to ensure that program goals meet the ever-changing needs and
requirements of international students who are sponsored. In addition to meeting the sponsor’s requirements, the Director is required to
work within the rules of the Graduate School and International Education (GSIE), the University, the State, and the Federal Government. The
Director reports to the Associate Dean for International Education within GSIE and works in concert with other GSIE Directors and campus
officials.
The Office of Sponsored Student and Special Programs facilitates the recruitment, admission, support and repatriation of
sponsored students, custom programs as nondegree students, and visiting exchange students at the University of Arkansas. The Director will
recruit sponsored students working with sponsoring agencies, institutions, ministries, and countries. As part of these recruitment efforts,
the Director will host and visit with government and non-government sponsors in the U.S. and abroad. The Director will also work with campus
units to develop custom programs to attract nondegree seeking students and scholars. Finally, the Director will support the work of
reciprocal exchange programs hosting visiting students.
Regular, reliable, and non-disruptive attendance is an essential job duty. In
addition, the ability to create and maintain collegial, harmonious working relationships with others is
imperative.
