The Department of Public Health Sciences at the University of Virginia seeks a Research Specialist to deliver behavioral interventions to research participants as specified in Air Force study protocol(s). The study sites are located at multiple Air Force Bases.
The Research Specialist must be thoroughly knowledgeable of the assigned study protocol(s), procedures and all associated activities. Although not responsible for direct supervision of assigned project staff, the Research Specialist is responsible for collaborating with all study staff to successfully achieve the goals of the study, the principal investigator and the department in a timely manner. The Research Specialist has latitude to implement certain decisions independently in accordance with protocol and departmental guidelines, including (but not limited to) subject eligibility/suitability to participate, behavioral modification strategies and counseling techniques. Many decisions are implemented after collaborating with the Program Director, Program Coordinators, Health/Clinical Psychologist, and/or Principal Investigator, including (but not limited to) database management, data collection/reporting/tracking, protocol adherence/modification, participant scheduling/retention, adverse event reporting or medication adjustment.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree in related field
Preferred Qualifications:
Demonstrated knowledge of behavioral interviewing and intervention techniques that drive behavior change, demonstrated knowledge of individual performance and/or behavior counseling and guidance through influential and peer-related conversations.
Have strong attention to detail and keen observation skills and the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Excellent interpersonal, organizational, time-management, verbal and written communication skills are required.
The ability to make good clinical judgment is expected, as is the ability to function independently and as a member of a team with minimal supervision.
The successful candidate must be able to obtain Human Subjects Protection and other applicable certifications within the first four weeks of employment.
Proficiency using Microsoft Word and Excel are required.
The ability to communicate clearly and effectively with a diverse group of participants, staff and faculty, including public speaking to large groups.
