Duties and Responsibilities:
Loyola University Chicago (LUC), College of Arts and Sciences, Department of Modern Languages & Literatures, invites applications for a full-time Lecturer of French (non-tenure-track, 3-year term, renewable) beginning 1 January 2024. This position involves teaching language courses at all levels and coordinating language courses. The French section of MLL serves approximately 20 majors in French and approximately 80 minors in two concentrations, French and French Language & Literature. The successful candidate will be joining a department with more than 20 full-time faculty members, over 12 majors and minors, and a graduate program in Hispanic Studies. This search is part of a University-wide, multiyear hiring initiative designed to hire outstanding researchers and teachers who are reflective of our diverse student body and committed to interdisciplinarity (i.e., working with colleagues across different subfields and disciplines). Teaching responsibilities will include a 4-4 teaching load. Courses will range from beginning to advanced-level French as well as the Composition & Conversation sequence, and may include courses in literature in translation. The position also includes coordination of French language courses.

The candidate should have a PhD in French or a related field at the time of appointment. Candidates for the position must clearly demonstrate the potential for excellence in teaching and have a record of (or clear potential for) student mentorship. The candidate should be willing to support the mission of LUC and the goals of a Jesuit Catholic Education.
