TAMUCT is a public university in Killeen, Texas, located near Fort Cavazos and the Austin area. It offers junior- and senior-level coursework leading to baccalaureate and graduate degrees. The student population at A&M-Central Texas is diverse and growing. TAMUCT is a Hispanic serving institution (HSI) and currently serves over 2,400 students. TAMUCT department of Social Sciences is an interdisciplinary department, with programs in Criminal Justice, Political Science, Sociology, and Anthropology. The Anthropology BS program emphasizes a broad 4-field approach to the discipline. Existing faculty research specializations focus on biological anthropology, osteology, bioarchaeology and forensics.
Job Summary
The Department of Social Sciences at Texas A&M University–Central Texas (TAMUCT) is seeking applicants for a tenure track Assistant Professor position in Anthropology to begin August 2024, with research and teaching expertise in cultural anthropology and related areas.
Job Responsibilities:
The primary responsibilities of the successful applicant will be to:
Teach undergraduate courses in anthropology, with a particular focus on cultural anthropology and related areas, including the following preexisting required courses: ANTH 3300 (Cultural Anthropology) and ANTH 3310 (Anthropological Theory). The candidate is also expected to develop one or more courses relang to their research specialization.
Demonstrate a commitment to excellence in teaching and mentoring a diverse student population and to working effectively with faculty, staff, and students across disciplines.
Advise students in the Anthropology BS program.
Engage in an active research agenda including publishing findings and presenting findings at academic conferences.
Participate in service commitments within the department, college, university, and the profession.
Take an active role in the growth of the Anthropology BS program.
Required Education and Experience
Ph.D. in Anthropology in hand by time of appointment.
One year of undergraduate or graduate teaching experience.
Evidence of an active research agenda.
Preferred Education and Experience
Evidence of exemplary teaching is preferred and should be noted in application where possible.
Evidence of scholarly activity, publication, and innovation in cultural anthropology or related areas.
Experience with online Learning Management Systems (LMS), preferably in a collegiate setting.
Experience in curriculum development.
