Newberry College is seeking a visionary and “student-first” professional to serve as the Assistant Dean/Director for the
Center for Student Success. The successful candidate will serve on the Enrollment/Retention Management Team (ERM) and play an important
leadership role in developing retention initiatives to advance the College’s strategic goals. (Note: The ERM team includes the
President, VPAA and other key leaders). The Assistant Dean will be responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of the Center for
Student Success, the hub of student support at the college. The Assistant Dean has direct supervision responsibilities for the Academic
Success Coaches, Coordinator of Disabilities and Academic Accommodations, Career Services Director. (Note: The Center will be adding
positions in the future).
The successful candidate will be a leader, capable of managing multiple projects simultaneously. He/she
will ensure that students who are identified as needing academic assistance receive the support to succeed academically. This includes
managing the Early Alert system, peer and professional tutoring, development of academic plans, and other retention-focused initiatives. The
Assistant Dean will work closely with the Associate Dean, Dean of Enrollment Management, key administrators and faculty to develop a
holistic approach to student success which begins once the student deposits and starts the enrollment process. He/she will chair the
Retention Action Group and Student Intervention Team, with the responsibility for coordinating outreach across campus administrative units
including faculty, admissions, student affairs, and athletics.
The Assistant Dean will be an active member of the campus community
which includes being widely available for student help, developing student support programs, and serving on institutional committees.
Newberry College is a residential college; some evening and weekend work will be required.

JOB FUNCTIONS:
EDUCATIONAL OR OTHER HIRING REQUIREMENTS FOR THE POSITION
Master’s Degree in student development,
counseling, or other areas of higher education. 5-7 years’ progressive experience working in a management level collegiate department
with responsibility for retention, academic advising, student success and persistence. Successful track record of supervising professional
level staff. Knowledge of best practices related to student success, retention and persistence. Supervision experience/demonstrated
leadership skills to manage a large campus department. Intercultural competence and ability to work with students from diverse populations.
Demonstrated experience in developing initiatives to enhance the student experience. Strong technical skills including experience with Excel
and other Microsoft programs, Slate, Jenzabar and other web-based programs.
