The Department of Theatre, Barnard College, Columbia University is recruiting a
Tenure-Track Assistant Professor of Theatre: a humanities research scholar with broad expertise in the field of race, drama, and theatre in
North America, and specific research expertise in African American, Asian American, Latinx, and/or Indigenous theatre and drama. The
successful candidate will develop a publication record sustaining a successful tenure review at both Barnard College and Columbia
University, teach broadly-based historically-oriented required survey courses in the history of theatre and theatre studies globally, and
develop specialized courses specific to their research in the context of a liberal-arts humanities degree. The candidate will also join the
faculty of the Ph.D. Program in Theatre and Performance, an interdisciplinary doctoral program at Columbia University, and be eligible to
teach graduate seminars, advise Ph.D. students, and serve on dissertations. The teaching load is 4 courses per year, with accompanying
undergraduate advising, service on departmental committees, and service to the College and to the Ph.D. in Theatre and Performance.
Applicants may also demonstrate relevant expertise in the areas of environmental theatre and sustainability; drama, theatre, and
diaspora; and/or qualifications to teach stage directing, playwriting, design, or acting. The Department of Theatre at Barnard College
offers the undergraduate theatre major to all Barnard College, Columbia College, and Columbia General Studies
students.
Ph.D. in theatre studies, performance studies, literary studies, or another relevant field is required; degree
in hand preferred, but confirmation of completed requirements for degree must be received no later than March 2024.
