Organizational Unit Overview:
The Department of Human Resources is responsible for providing a comprehensive program of services to the approximately 6,300 employees of the University. The Employment Services unit of Human Resources must attract, retain, and develop a work force that will effectively carry out the mission of East Carolina University. These functions specifically include recruitment, advertising, affirmative action, screening applicant pools, hiring approval for all SHRA and CSS new hires, promotions and transfers, records management and data management. Also, the Employment section coordinates the recruitment and hiring procedures for non-teaching EHRA and EHRA faculty positions. In addition, Employment Services manages the temporary employment program and the student employment posting process for all student positions and the recruitment and hiring process for all self help students.
Employment is responsible for the recruitment, qualifying, and salary administration affecting nearly 4,800 positions. Employment Services recruits for over 800 vacancies each year, which involves approximately 50,000 applications. The Employment section is currently comprised of the Director (EHRA-SAAO II), two Human Resources Consultant-Advanced, two Human Resources Consultant-Journey positions, two Human Resources Specialist-Journey positions, two Administrative Support Specialist-Journey positions, and one Administrative Support Specialist-Contributing position. The unit also includes a part time EHRA Director of the HERC of the Carolinas.
Job Duties :
This position reports to the Director for Employment & Clinical Support Services, and functions as the initial point of contact for visitors and incoming calls to the department, and provides assistance to both applicants and University departments with the hiring process. The position assists hiring departments in preparing hiring paperwork, including verification of employment eligibility (I-9). The position also assists with advertising of SHRA, CSS, and EHRA vacancies. The position is also responsible for initiating the criminal background check process for all new and transferring employees, student workers (as needed) and volunteers. The position reviews the SHRA and CSS recruitments for accuracy and maintains the KChecks system for the unit.
Minimum Education/Experience:
High school diploma or equivalency and one year of related office experience; or equivalent combination of training and experience.
