Position Summary:
This senior administrator, who serves as a member of the University Cabinet and reports to the Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs and Provost, will direct the Office of Institutional Diversity (OID) and manage a wide portfolio of responsibilities in the Office of the Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs and Provost by serving as Chief of Staff.
The Vice Provost leads a focused institutional effort to promote inclusive excellence at the University of Georgia and advises the President and Provost in this area. The Vice Provost collaborates with the Vice Presidents, Deans, other administrators, faculty, staff, and students to develop and implement strategies and initiatives that will promote a welcoming environment for all faculty, staff and students and support academic excellence goals.

As Chief of Staff to the Provost, the Vice Provost promotes excellence in operations and effectiveness in communications, leads strategic university initiatives, and carries out special projects and assignments as requested by the Provost. Several offices, including the Office of Accreditation and Institutional Effectiveness, will report to the Vice Provost.

This position is open to current UGA employees only.Faculty will retain their current rank and tenure status at the time of appointment. If the Vice Provost is tenured, that will continue to be held within the appropriate academic department independently of their service in this administrative position.Staff will be appointed as a non-tenure track Admin A faculty member.
Relevant/Preferred Education, Experience, Licensure, and/or Certification:
The ideal candidate will have a background in inclusive excellence and experience working with students, faculty, and staff, with a demonstrated track record of successfully addressing goals in the context of an institution of higher education or another complex organization. Graduate level preparation (a terminal degree) with six or more years of experience in higher education is preferred.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies:
Institutional Knowledge: The Vice Provost will have a comprehensive knowledge of the University of Georgia gained from service in prior leadership roles at the University, familiarity with the SACSCOC accreditation process, and an understanding about policies and compliance.
Higher Education Issues: The Vice Provost will have a command of complex issues facing higher education, including faculty, staff, and student recruitment and retention strategies, student affairs, the impact of diversity on education, evaluation of the campus climate, and the policy and legal dynamics of higher education.
Administrative Skills: The Vice Provost must be skilled at navigating a complex university environment and responding well to sensitive situations, including knowing how to build consensus, achieve buy-in, and manage competing interests. This role requires broad knowledge of the University of Georgia and strong project management skills.
Collaboration and Vision: The Vice Provost must be able to develop and cultivate a collaborative vision for inclusive excellence on campus; resonate as authentic with students, faculty, staff, and administrators; and commit to working collaboratively with other senior administrators.
Organizational Culture: The Vice Provost should possess a command of the elements and dynamics of changing an organizational culture, and the commitment to see the change through to completion. This requires passion and patience to lead the design, implementation, assessment, and evolution of strategic priorities over time.
Interactive Proficiency: The Vice Provost must possess a high degree of emotional intelligence and communication skills. Given that much of the work will be accomplished through lateral coordination, the Vice Provost must have the ability to cross organizational boundaries and work with multiple constituencies.
Issues in Higher Education: The Vice Provost must work effectively within the context of shared governance, numerous competing goals, decentralized campus decision-making, and show an appreciation of the individualized needs of all students, faculty, staff, and alumni.
