The University of California, Davis, Department of Pediatrics is recruiting for a Developmental Scientist with expertise in the field of child maltreatment.
A full-time faculty position (In Residence Series) is available in the Department of Pediatrics at the Assistant/Associate/Full Professor rank (commensurate with credentials) for a developmental psychologist with expertise in traumatic childhood experiences. The candidate must possess a Ph.D. in developmental psychology, human development, or related field. Demonstrated research expertise in implementation and evaluation of evidenced based treatments for childhood trauma is required. The candidate should also have expertise in implementation science, dyadic interventions in the context of trauma, assessment of intervention effectiveness within high-risk populations and program development in diverse and/or underserved populations.
The individual selected for the position will be expected to maintain a successful, independent research program and demonstrate excellence in teaching and university service. Specific responsibilities include: 1) carrying out studies related to identification and treatment of childhood maltreatment; 2) evaluating community-based approaches to childhood maltreatment through both quantitative and qualitative approaches; 3) successfully competing for extramural funding to develop novel screening, diagnostic and treatment models for child maltreatment and models to evaluate their effectiveness and 4) expertise in overseeing data collection and management systems and managing a research team. Additional responsibilities include interdisciplinary collaborations with faculty from diverse backgrounds and participation in large-scale, team science initiatives.
The CAARE Center comprises one of 15 divisions in the Department of Pediatrics. The division’s academic and clinical offices are based at the UC Davis CAARE Center, an internationally known clinical, research and training center on the University of California, Davis Medical Center campus. The Division includes a Community Mental Health Clinic funded by Early Periodic Screening, Diagnosis, and Treatment that provides therapy and assessment services for maltreated/traumatized children and their families. The CAARE Center has a nationally competitive APA approved Psychology Internship, a Postdoctoral fellowship program in Clinical Psychology and a California Department of Healthcare Services-funded program supporting Master’s level trainees. In addition to a federally funded Parent-Child Care (PC-CARE) Training Center, there are numerous federal, state and county grants that support clinical services for maltreated, homeless, incarcerated, and other socio-economically vulnerable children and their parents.
CAARE Center staff provide high-quality, evidence-based treatments such as Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Parent-Child Care (PC-CARE) and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). Psychologists in the CAARE Center Evaluation Program conduct psychological and child welfare evaluations, including parent-child relationship assessments, treatment/reunification planning, juvenile competency and juvenile/adult recidivism risk assessment. They also provide expert witness testimony, education and consultation regarding the effects of trauma on children and related topics.
The Department of Pediatrics is a leader in health professions education within the School of Medicine and has an exceptional Pediatric Residency Program, the only one of its kind in the Greater Sacramento Region. With more than 120 physicians in 33 pediatric subspecialties, the Children’s Hospital is a 118-bed hospital housed within the 619-bed University of California, Davis Medical Center.
The UC Davis Children’s Hospital is based on the UC Davis Health campus in Sacramento, California and serves a population of over 1 million children in the Northern California, Central Valley and Western Nevada regions. Sacramento is an easily accessible, family-oriented city in close proximity to the San Francisco Bay area, Lake Tahoe and the Sierra Nevada Mountains, the California coast, and Napa Valley.
Qualifications
* Ph.D. in developmental psychology, human development or related field
* Demonstrated track record of independent research (publications, grant funding, grant management)
* Demonstrated record of teaching pediatric residents, medical students, child psychology interns and postdoctoral fellows and mater’s level trainees
* Ability to foster collegiality and work collaboratively in a diverse environment
