Position SummaryThe MSU Autism Lab in the Department of Psychology at Michigan State University is seeking a full‐time, bilingual Spanish‐ and English‐speaking research assistant. The research assistant will join a multi‐site NIMH Collaborative R01 study, under the direction of Dr. Brooke Ingersoll (Michigan State University), Dr. Alice Carter (University of Massachusetts Boston), Dr. Wendy Stone (University of Washington), Dr. Allie Wainer (Rush University Medical Center), and Dr. Sarabeth Broder‐Fingert (Boston University School of Medicine). This community‐based randomized controlled trial is examining the effectiveness of training EI providers to deliver Reciprocal Imitation Teaching (RIT) within the Part C Early Intervention (EI) system across four states (Massachusetts, Michigan, Washington and Illinois). The MSU Research Lab, directed by Dr. Brooke Ingersoll, is focused on the development, evaluation, and implementation of community‐viable interventions for children with ASD and their families. MSU Autism Lab is a supportive and collaborative environment. The research assistant will also benefit from broader training opportunities across sites. This position is ideal for a candidate looking to gain additional research experience in clinical psychology before applying to graduate school.
Job duties include, but are not limited to: Assisting in coordinating research and laboratory operations in order to meet research goals, completing IRB revisions, running lab meetings, consulting with research supervisor in order to assist in planning and designing experiments and coordinates with data manager, acts as a resource person to internal and external individuals regarding research projects including supervising undergraduate volunteers, temp/on-call employees and students, overseeing budgets and purchasing for the project.
Unit Specific Education/Experience/Skills
Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a four-year college degree program in the specific field of research employment or other related science fields; one to three years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in standard laboratory procedures and safety requirements and performing analytical and research techniques in an area related to research being performed; may require software specific to the area of research; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. The position may require special licensing or certification in the field related to the area of employment.
Desired Qualifications• Bachelor’s degree in psychology, social work, or related discipline. • Minimum of 1 year of research experience working in a research laboratory. • Demonstrated interest in intervention research and experience working with children, especially children with autism. • Strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills, including the ability to manage undergraduate research assistants and coordinate with off‐site collaborators. • Strong computer skills, including word processing; familiarity with Microsoft Word and Excel and SPSS software • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. • Ability to work 40 hours per week. Hours are typically scheduled between 9am‐5pm Monday through Friday but may be required to work outside these hours (evenings/weekends). • Experience with web design, database management, and video editing are preferred.Equal Employment Opportunity Statement
