Director of Financial Planning and Analysis

The Director of Financial Planning and Analysis provides support to the accounting and finance department. This position reports directly to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) and works closely with the Vice President of Finance and Director of Accounting to drive budget management, financial performance, and implement process efficiencies across the organization.

Job Responsibilities

• Evaluate the software reporting capabilities to lead the implementation of an automated budgeting and financial forecasting tool(s) necessary in financial analyses and decision making to streamline, automate, and increase the accuracy and effectiveness of the strategic objectives of the company.
• Monitor progress of financial budget metrics on a monthly and quarterly basis. Collaborates with CFO and VP of Finance to develop plans, budgets and forecasts and identify and provide explanations of project performance and financial statement budget-to-actual variances.
• Provide high quality financial leadership to identify and analyze potential project cost overruns, operational costs, unbudgeted expenses, and proactively raise these issues and present critical insight and strategic recommendations on how to mitigate ongoing risk to navigate the company forward.
• Responsible for, and in coordination with VP of Finance, the preparation of accurate and timely system-generated monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
• Oversee and lead continuous improvement efforts of the current accounting system to maximize comprehensive use and efficiency of each module in compliance with GAAP and internal control procedures
• Serve as a financial-supporting element for the corporate office by coordinating and providing hands-on support to general ledger, cash management, billing, accounts receivable, accounts payable, and payroll.
• Manage the company’s project setup, revenue recognition, classification of project costs, and project profitability in collaboration with Contracts and Program Management
• Regularly review current practices and formulate recommendations to improve the department’s budgetary, accounting, and financial policies, procedures, and processes to enhance the efficient functioning of the activities.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

Work Environment

All work will be conducted in a typical office environment, currently teleworking with an occasional requirement to report to the corporate office.

Professional Experience / Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field is required.
• 6 years of demonstrated business experience to include experience in a senior level position
• Accounting and financial reporting experience in a government contracting environment preferred.
• Management experience, coaching skills, and dedication in developing a team
• Exceptional technical, written presentation and oral communication skills
• Strong budget and forecasting experience
• Ability to work and communicate effectively with all levels of operations and senior management
• Strong computer skills including Excel, PowerPoint, Costpoint, or other Government Contracting Accounting Software
• Demonstrated ability to roll-up sleeves and work with team members in a hands-on management capacity
• Knowledgeable of best practices in all areas of financial planning and analysis
• Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, ability to prioritize and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

The successful candidate will be interested in understanding the business of the company and applying his/her financial skills to support the company’s strategic goals.
