Woodbury University invites applications for the position of an Academic Advisor. This position is overseen by the
Title V HSI Grant Activity Director and reports to the Interim Assistant Vice President of Academic Affairs. The Academic Advisor supports
students in three new STEM undergraduate degree programs: Sustainable Practices, Construction Management, and Environmental Science. These
programs provide high-demand career options for our students, many of whom are underrepresented in these fields. The Academic Advisor
supports the implementation of a centralized advising program that assists students in mapping degree plans to achieve their educational and
career goals. The advisor helps students choose elective courses that support their plans; sequence those courses to meet enrollment,
program, and prerequisite requirements; and maintain the plans as goals and circumstances change. The advisor liaises with faculty mentors
who provide discipline-centered perspectives, a community outreach coordinator that supports work-based experiences, and a financial
sustainability advisor.
The successful applicant must have a holistic view of undergraduate education. The position requires working
as a student advocate in two primary areas: academic, which involves working with program chairs and faculty mentors, and administrative,
which involves working with Student Affairs, Career Services, Financial Aid, the Registrar’s Office, and campuswide university
stakeholders to develop advising and registration systems. Together with this team, the Academic Advisor helps implement a multifaceted
student support network to guide students throughout their academic journey. We seek candidates with professional experience and a
demonstrated interest in promoting an inclusive culture. This position is funded by a DOE Title V grant through the Developing
Hispanic-Serving Institutions Program.
This position qualifies for university sponsored employee benefit plans and programs
(e.g., group health insurance, life insurance, tax deferred annuity plan, annual vacation, sick, and paid holidays), subject to the
eligibility requirements and conditions of each plan and program.
Salary/Hourly Range: $22.00 – $24.20 (commensurate with experience
and qualifications).
