We invite applications for a tenure-eligible position in the School of Marine Science (SMS), VIMS. Associate rank
is preferred, but higher ranks may also be considered. The position is anticipated to begin in the Summer of 2022.
candidate should demonstrate an established funding record, have a strong scholarship record commensurate with experience, a demonstrated
ability to sustain an active research program, potential for excellence in teaching and mentoring students, and strong communication skills.
The successful candidate will be expected to lead an active research program that is externally well-funded, teach core and advanced
courses, advise students (primarily at the graduate level), participate in university and VIMS/SMS governance, and provide advisory service
on related resource management issues of importance to the Commonwealth of Virginia.
Candidates are sought who are
prepared to engage in research and advisory service consistent with VIMS’ mission. The candidate should demonstrate excellence in the
development of numerical modelling capabilities for coastal and estuarine environments, and ideally the application of coupled biophysical
models at multiple scales to inform coastal issues such as storm surge and water quality. The successful candidate will be poised to take
advantage of opportunities for interdisciplinary collaborations that abound at VIMS, such as investigating hydrodynamic effects on
biological, chemical, and geological processes. Additionally, the appointment will afford the successful candidate with access to VIMS and
William & Mary’s High-Performance Computing (HPC) capabilities. The successful candidate will be expected to develop a teaching program that
meets the needs of VIMS’ graduate student population.
