Position Summary
The digital content specialist plays a key role in maintaining information on the university website and affiliated subsites. In addition, the digital content specialist manages communications on the university portal and digital sign. They work alongside a team consisting of a digital media specialist, media relations manager, and writers/editors to ensure that the communication needs of the university are met.

Core Responsibilities
Digital Content Communications | 70%

• Post updates to the Whitworth website and affiliated subsites
• Review and approve department website updates
  1. Edit content for spelling, grammar, punctuation and adherence to Whitworth’s editorial style guide
  2. Ensure consistency, accuracy and compliance with the university brand
• Write, edit, format and post announcements to Pirate Port (university’s communications portal) and post webpage entries
• Post blog submissions and podcast uploads (audio files will be prepared by a separate office)
• Regularly review and update key webpages
• Monitor and fix broken links
• Manage the university’s digital sign
• Manage an editorial calendar
• Review, approve and format text for broadcast email messages

MarCom Office Operations | 20%

• Provide back-up assistance for crisis communications, media relations, press release generation, editing and distribution
• Provide training and support to Whitworth faculty, staff and students
• Serve as the primary point of contact for general questions about the website
• Write and maintain documentation
• Assist content editors with the use of Whitworth’s content management server to update university pages
• Set up and maintain virtual web addresses

Other | 10%

• Serve as a tertiary editor for key university publications
• Gather and format information for the class notes section of the university alumni magazine
• Assist with department events and special projects

Minimum Qualifications | Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Writing, editing and fact checking skills
• A personal commitment to the Christian faith and to the integration of faith and learning.
• Demonstrated growth in cultural competence and proven experience in effectively establishing relationships and positive communications with students and other constituents across multiple dimensions of diversity including, but not limited to, race, gender, varying abilities, nationality, sexual orientation, gender identity, class or religious perspectives.
• A commitment to the educational mission of Whitworth University as a comprehensive Christian liberal arts university affiliated with the Presbyterian church.
• Strong organization skills and attention to detail
• Ability to work independently and be productive in a fast-paced environment
• Effective interpersonal skills
• Computer proficiency using software programs such as Outlook, Word and Excel
• Ability to work within the framework of a cohesive team
• Availability to assist with special initiatives or emergencies outside of regular operating hours (including weekends and holidays)
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in communications, English, journalism, marketing or a closely related field

Preferred Qualifications

• Familiarity with AP Style
• Experience using a content management system

Position Details
