Associate Vice President Financial and Strategic Planning
The Business Office at Whittier College seeks an Associate Vice President Financial and Strategic Planning.
Provides critical support to the senior leadership of the College regarding strategic financial forecasting and
analysis of new strategic initiatives. Develops, implements and administers key financial and strategic
planning processes including the annual operating budget, financial forecasts, mergers and acquisitions,
strategic partnerships, and business plans. Serves as the Chief Financial and Business Officer for new
ventures. Works with the President, and the Vice President, New Ventures, and key personnel across campus
to develop and implement financial policies and procedures in support of new ventures. Provides strategic data
analysis for key success metrics of the College. Chairs the President’s Strategic Planning Task Force. Also
prepares the institution’s annual budget and forecasts.
Hours: Monday – Friday, 40 hours per week
Exempt Status: Exempt
Full Time/Part Time status: Full Time
Salary Range: $145,000-$155,000 annually; Salary will commensurate with experience, skills, and knowledge.
Reports to: President (indirect to the Vice President Innovation and New Ventures)
Location/Department: Whittier College (Main Campus)/ Business Office
Responsibilities:
In support of the New Venture division, ensures the successful launch of new initiatives.
Serve as the chief financial executive responsible for the development of financial processes, analysis, and reporting for the new venture division.
Direct the preparation of the college’s annual operating budget and quarterly forecasts.
Compile revenue assumptions from sources including Academic Affairs, Broadoaks, Enrollment Management, New Ventures, Student Life, Advancement.
Compile assumptions and requests into budget and forecast scenarios.
Prepare presentations for leadership, faculty, staff, and the Board of Trustees.
Write status reports for senior leadership review and action.
Review division budget to actual reports to monitor compliance.
Develop financial planning and reporting tools and processes to monitor actual results and performance metrics.

Position Specifications and Requirements:
Previous Experience:
Ten years with professional level experience in financial planning and budgeting preferably in a higher education or nonprofit environment. Knowledge and experience in business operations and supervisory experience is a plus.
Knowledge and Education:
Knowledge of financial and strategic planning and forecasting. Good communication and exceptional problem-solving skills; develops and implements policies and procedures; meets deadlines; high attention to detail; understanding of finance, capital planning, and fund accounting. Expert skills with Excel, Word, and PowerPoint software; some knowledge of MS Access and databases. Prior working experience in Ellucian Banner ERP System for Universities is a plus.
Machines, Tools, Equipment, Electronic Devices and Software:
Computers and Laptops, adding machines, calculators, copiers and scanners, phones, email, chats and web platform meetings; use of Microsoft Excel, Access and Word is required. Functioning within ERP accounting systems required
License(s) and Certificate(s):
Master’s in Business Administration required.
