Westchester Community College was founded in 1946 as the New York State Institute of Applied Arts and Sciences in White Plains. In 1957, the County of Westchester bought the 360-acre John Hartford estate in Valhalla and designated 218 acres for the community college. Job Description:
The P/T Program Specialist/Learning Specialist supports the mission of Disability Services by supporting students with documented intellectual disabilities to develop successful learning and study strategies. This is a part-time, grant-funded, on-campus position. The Program Specialist will:

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor’s degree in Education, Psychology, or related field and two years of experience in related field. Satisfactory completion of 30 credits towards a Master’s degree may be substituted for each year of experience.
All candidates must have evidence of responsiveness to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, as these factors relate to the need for equity-minded practice. Effective oral and written communication skills are required. Also required is proficiency in software systems including Microsoft Office applications, as well as a detail-oriented approach to data entry and tracking. The successful candidate will be able to relate well with students and colleagues, have organizational and facilitation skills, and possess the ability to work with a team of diverse faculty, staff and students.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Experience with delivering support to students with learning disabilities is preferred. Experience with individuals with learning disabilities, post-secondary education environments, public school systems, community agencies, and organizations that serve individuals with disabilities is desirable. The preferred candidate will possess knowledge of and understanding in the areas of disabilities, disability law and common academic accommodations. Professional experience working on regulatory compliance requirements including, but not limited to ADA and other nondiscrimination and equal opportunity laws, rules, and regulations is also preferred. Bilingual verbal and written fluency is strongly preferred.
Additional Information:
WORK SCHEDULE: The work schedule is 28 hours per week on campus.
SALARY & BENEFITS: $34.60/hour. No benefits. This position is fully grant funded.
