Westchester Community College was founded in 1946 as the New York State Institute of Applied Arts and Sciences in White Plains. In 1957, the County of Westchester bought the 360-acre John Hartford estate in Valhalla and designated 218 acres for the community college. Job Description:
The Office of International Student Services works with students from all over the world who want to study at SUNY Westchester Community College. In addition to the normal academic advising and counseling, these students need assistance with obtaining and maintaining their “International Student” immigration status. This office is tasked with maintaining compliance with Federal immigration regulations.
The Office Assistant (Word Processing) coordinates office operations and provides general office support for the Office of International Student Services, including scheduling appointments, maintaining calendars, managing requisitions and office supplies, and assisting with special projects or initiatives as assigned. The incumbent also offers assistance in maintaining and updating student files in PeopleSoft and SEVIS (the USCIS system), paper documents, and other administrative records; interacts with and responds to requests from students, professional staff, and administrators; and assists international students, providing guidance, information, and support regarding services, procedures, and resources. The incumbent will be tasked with monitoring the office’s email boxes and fielding phone calls.
Requirements:
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: The successful candidate must possess a high school or equivalency diploma and three years of experience where a primary function of the position was performing general office/clerical work, two years of which must have included the use of computer applications to maintain automated records or produce correspondence, spreadsheets, forms, reports or other documents.*This is a Civil Service position. The final candidate will be required to take and pass the Civil Service Exam.*
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Evidence of customer service experience and strong organizational skills preferred. Experience working in a culturally diverse educational institution also preferred. Comfortable working both independently and collaboratively. Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite, PeopleSoft, and/or a document imaging system is a plus.

POSITION EFFECTIVE: The position will remain open until filled.
WORK SCHEDULE: The work schedule is Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
SALARY & BENEFITS: The starting salary is $47,412. Additional compensation with seniority steps maximize at a salary of $57,474. Benefits include comprehensive health coverage, a choice of defined benefit and/or defined contribution pension plan, generous leave benefits, and access to tax sheltered annuities and a deferred compensation plan.
