Summary of Duties:
The Payroll Specialist is responsible for complex fiscal operations and analysis related to processing payroll for Washington State University. This position specializes in processing payroll overpayments submitted by departments campus-wide. These duties include reviewing, approving, processing and other fiscal-related functions for Payroll Services, consulting with employees and departments to resolve accounting and reporting errors and collect overpaid amounts. Reviews, analyzes, verifies and corrects accounting data related to overpayments. Additionally, the incumbent is responsible for Payroll training and serving as backup to other critical payroll functions, working in various WSU applications.
Required Qualifications:
Two years of experience at a level equivalent to Fiscal Specialist 1 AND 15 quarter hours OR 10 semester hours of college level accounting; OR equivalent education/experience.
Demonstrated attention to detail and working accurately with numbers.
Demonstrated communication skills and interpersonal skills.
Demonstrated experience working under tight deadlines and in stressful situations.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with the WSU systems (Workday, DEPPS, HEPPS, FACTS, BALANCES, My WSU)
Demonstrated experience working in a Microsoft Office environment with an emphasis on Word and Excel.
Clerical experience at WSU.
Experience in payroll, personnel or benefits in a higher education setting.

Monthly Salary: Range 43 | $3,619 to $4,842 (Step A – M) | Successful candidates typically begin at the beginning of the salary range and receive scheduled salary increment increases in accordance with WAC 357-28.
