The Department of Music at Wake Forest University invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor in Voice (Soprano or Mezzo-Soprano preferable) to begin July 1, 2024. We seek an active performer and dedicated teacher with expertise in classical music as well as exemplary creative or research activity in non-Western, popular, and/or contemporary vocal music styles. Successful applicants will maintain an active performance schedule and regularly teach undergraduate voice at all levels within a liberal arts setting. Teaching responsibilities will also include academic courses of interest to the candidate and of need to the department, such as first year seminars, global or popular music courses, or musical theater history. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a commitment to diversity and inclusion by way of teaching, performing, publishing, or volunteer experiences and/or practices; the ability to do so should be addressed in the candidate’s cover letter. Evidence of excellent performing and successful teaching is required. A Doctorate is preferred, but a MM with a strong record of professional performing will be considered.
The department has adopted a substantially revised curriculum designed to engage students with a greater diversity of musical thought and practice; transcend traditional disciplinary boundaries; increase student and community access to music courses and programming; and allow students in the music major to pursue a course of study whose breadth and depth supports their needs as pre-professionals and as people. We particularly welcome applications from candidates interested in contributing to this vision.
