The UX Design Manager, Enterprise UX Consistency & Usability is responsible for leading efforts to identify, standardize, and champion UX quality, consistency, usability, and shared enterprise UX with a focus on patterns and service design across Allstate experiences. This position will be dedicated to UX as a platform, and will assess, evaluate, and drive shared experiences, patterns, navigational models and hierarchies, and industry standards to increase Allstate’s UX quality and delivery across the full suite of Allstate’ products and services. The UX Design Manager collaborates with key stakeholders, UX team members, UX leadership, product managers, developers, and end-users to define, design, ship and iterate Allstate’s UX platform.

Specifically for this role, the applicant needs portfolio examples that show: design platforming initiatives; enterprise design systems and/or macro patterns; consolidated enterprise navigation schemes; or similar; applicants will need to speak to how you drove adoption, governance and consensus to lead a larger community and/or enterprise to adopt common standards and leverage that work. The applicant should be able to speak to their design philosophy and be aware of design trends. Applicants who cannot provide work samples will not be considered.
Key Responsibilities:
Drive and have UX discipline leader responsibility for ensuring a unified, consistent, usable, and industry-leading end-end customer experience across all Allstate user experiences for our customers
Serve as the resident ‘expert’ leader within the UX team on UX and navigation patterns, needs, usability and consistency across products. Leads the team as one of the most senior-level manager-practitioners.
Source, assess, document, and have a point of view on areas Allstate’s UX reflects consistency and quality, as well as prioritized areas of opportunity to improve. Conduct thorough heuristics across all current and planned experiences
Lead a small team and all activities aligned to UX cross-platform quality and consistency, including defining the direction, standards, options, benchmarks, competitive perspectives, governance, and outcomes from a UX perspective.
Identify, design, and orchestrate patterns that undergird all of Allstate’s experiences.
Model how to use human-centered design approaches to frame problems, uncover patterns, discover opportunities, visualize concepts, and lead a team.
Utilize a research-based, user-centered design approaches to assess, test and gain tangible quantitative and qualitative feedback when multiple patterns exist to solve the same user problem/ use case in order to select the “right” single pattern/standard for enterprise adoption. Ensure such research aligns with key business and usability KPIs or goals (examples: reduced clicks, reduced task time to completion, reduced total time on page, improved comprehension and retention, increased conversion, etc.). Help to define, evangelize, and standardize the appropriate KPIs for use in each context.
Partner with product managers and technology leads to assess and prioritize strategic opportunities in an agile development environment.
Manage, coach, and mentor UX designers on lean design practices, design platforming and shared libraries, and research as applied to testing and evaluating design patterns.
Ability to manage expectations with senior leaders and stakeholders to shape, define and manage ongoing communication for all aspects of Allstate’s UX platform. Be able to provide status updates, own and manage a backlog, and identify areas of highest value/priority across the portfolio
Lead the team to design and envision future experiences iteratively in a dynamic environment by being mindful of how varied products and experiences may need to evolve over time.
Guide the team to create just enough documentation to communicate designs and research and test those options in order to provide clear recommendations to stakeholders. Able to stay away from overproduced deliverables and support collaborative in-person decisions.
Able to create rapid iterations of design prototypes and validate them for usefulness and usability with users by driving and defining both the designs and the user tests for feedback
Model what it looks like to be a continuous learner. Grow and share your depth of knowledge and apply it to develop your team and evolve how design happens at Allstate.
Enable and adhere to a measurement strategy with metrics that matter; ensure qualitative and quantitative data is captured and used appropriately to inform decisions for the products in purview. Preferred Qualifications
Seven or more years as a UX lead and senior practitioner in highly collaborative environments and at least 3 years of management experience.
Large enterprise experience working across several disparate products and systems from the same brand/ company.
Hands-on experience and leadership experience leading and contributing to an enterprise design system or component library and/or driving design platform patterns.
Experience leading and facilitating a wide breadth of human-centered design methodologies, particularly for design platforming initiatives.
Expert-level proficiency in at least one, ideally two, UX disciplines such as: Interaction Design, Information Architecture, Visual Design, Content Strategy, UX Research, or Product Design
Expert-level understanding of the user-centered design process and methods.
Strong knowledge of qualitative and quantitative research methodologies.
Bachelor’s degree or higher in the following is a plus: Design, Human Computer Interaction (HCI), Interaction Design, Information Sciences, Psychology, Human Factors, and/or Computer Science
Expertise using industry design tools such as Figma, Sketch, Adobe, Axure, InVision, etc. (Allstate will be moving to Figma.)
Experience designing in insurance, financial, or highly regulated verticals is a plus.

Compensation offered for this role is $137,000 – $155,000 per year and is based on experience and qualifications.
