Overview
USU Eastern Upward Bound seeks a Program Coordinator I who is sensitive to educational, economic, social and cultural diversities unique to Upward Bound students. The coordinator will be located in Price, UT and will work with Upward Bound students during and after school. The coordinator will help to identify students who meet UB eligibility criteria, especially those who are low-income, first-generation, those who have potential for completing high school and entering postsecondary education, and those who are considered higher risk. They will also help determine if the student has the motivation or interest in improving his/her academics, and willingness to pursue a postsecondary degree.
The coordinator will provide supplemental support services, such as academic advisement, career guidance, financial aid counseling, tutoring, and other motivational and intervention strategies. They will ensure that participants are familiar with educational opportunities and aware of financial aid and scholarship options. They will help with all necessary applications. The UB coordinator will be expected to become personally familiar with each participant, know and understand his/her academic and non-academic needs, and exert every effort to help the participant find satisfactory solutions leading to success. Counseling support will continue throughout the duration of time the participant is enrolled.
UB coordinators and school counselors will collaborate to ensure that academic, motivational, career guidance, and college planning needs of participants are met. They will work closely with teachers, counselors and administrators in tracking student needs and progress. The Upward Bound coordinator will also be responsible for planning and facilitating after school workshops/meetings, monthly campus visits, as well as assisting in the coordination of the UB summer program.

USU Eastern Upward Bound is a federally funded grant program designed to encourage postsecondary preparation of high school students who are from low-income families and are first-generation college bound students. We serve 63 high school students from Grand, Emery and Carbon counties during the school year and 30 high school students from Grand, Emery and Carbon counties in our summer program.
