Provides primary medical care to students at the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh, including assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and referral with an emphasis on health promotion and disease prevention. Demonstrates a strong interest and background in teaching and training along with the ability to provide culturally competent and sensitive medical services to a racially, ethnically, and culturally diverse population. Independently performs clinical job responsibilities with consultation available by a university contracted physician as needed. Must commit to a flexible work schedule which might include some evening and/or weekend hours throughout the academic year.

(90%) Clinical Duties and Responsibilities

• Provides advanced practice nursing care, collaborating with a physician as needed.
• Evaluates, diagnoses, treats, and manages acute and chronic illness and disease including mental health and minor injuries.
• Obtains medical histories, conducts physical examinations, and assesses and determines differential diagnosis.
• Prescribes medication, therapy, and treatments accordingly.
• Performs minor surgeries and routine procedures.
• Orders, performs, and interprets diagnostic studies in the field of clinical specialty.
• Interprets and evaluates patient data for the purpose of determining management and treatment of patients.
• Provides gynecological care and prescribes all birth control alternatives including emergency contraception.
• Maintains medical record documentation according to established standards and guidelines.
• Coordinates patient care by referral mechanisms to on and off campus resources.
• Provides consultation to nursing staff as requested.
• Counsels, instructs, and educates patients on physical and mental health including diet, preventive health measures, health behaviors, self-care skills, disease, treatment options, and university and community resources.
• Cross trained for CLIA waived laboratory procedures and wet prep microscopy.
• Provides culturally competent and sensitive medical services to a racially, ethnically, and culturally diverse population.
• Adheres to Student Health Center policies and standards.

(10%) Non-Clinical Duties and Responsibilities:

• Participates in the development of clinical policies, procedures and protocols which are evidence based and follow national guidelines.
• Participates in assigned Student Health Center committees.
• Active participant in quality improvement measures by designing and implementing, on average, one quality study per year.
• Evaluates research data and makes recommendations based on findings.
• Participate in research studies appropriate to the student health center population served.
• Reports adverse incidents.
• Performs peer reviews.
• Provides clinical education/expertise to campus and staff.
• Guest lectures for various classes as requested.
• Participates in the development of patient education material.
• Provides clinical supervision, mentoring and precepting of students training in nursing/health related field occupations.
• Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, establishing personal networks, and/or participating in professional societies.
• Prepares and presents campus and community health programming.
• Participates in the development and maintenance of quality care following the AAAHC accreditation standards.
• Provides leadership, engagement, and service by participation on university committees.
• Other duties as assigned.

• Master’s Degree in Nursing.
• Current Registered Nurse (RN) license issued by the state of Wisconsin or Nurse Compact License.
• Current Advanced Practice Nurse Prescriber (APNP) license issued by the state of Wisconsin.
• Current Family or Adult Nurse Practitioner certification issued by the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners (AANP) or American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC).
• Current Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) license issued by the United States Department of Justice Drug Enforcement Administration, or ability to obtain within 1 month of hire.
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification, or ability to obtain within 1 month of hire.

• Minimum of 1 year experience working in ambulatory primary care, urgent care, women’s health and/or with young adult populations.
• Experience in providing care for mental health concerns of the young adult population.
• Demonstrated ability to function well in a team-based environment.
• Proficient with public speaking.
• Excellent organizational and time management skills in a clinical setting. Ability to prioritize acuity level, adapt to a changing schedule and accommodate urgent concerns.
• Ability to perform job duties independently, with minimal supervision.
