Job Summary:
The Executive Director of SuccessWorks at the UW-Madison College of Letters & Science (L&S) leads strategy, operations, communications, collaborations, and assessment to provide career development resources and opportunities for the college’s 18,000 undergraduate students. Reporting to the L&S dean, the person in this position leads a team of more than 20 professional staff plus another 15 student workers, and oversees a $2 million annual budget. The Executive Director is responsible for leading career-related engagement and developing strong partnerships with L&S departments and programs, other UW-Madison schools and colleges, regional and national recruiters and employers, and a vast and dedicated alumni and donor network.
Responsibilities:
Develops strategy, policy and protocol, administers services, and cultivates relationships for career advising and/or employer relations efforts within a school or college to ensure all constituents receive quality career services support. Strives to create a welcoming, equitable, and inclusive work environment.

Qualifications:
Required qualifications
* Five or more years of progressively responsible experience in student career services, employer relations, academic student services, or a related area in higher education.
* Experience with management/supervision and/or mentorship/coaching of professional staff, demonstrating an inclusive, team-oriented leadership style.
* Knowledge of recent and relevant research, practice, technologies, and/or data-driven assessment techniques for the student career development field.
* Exceptional organization and communication skills for developing and maintaining diverse academic, employer, community, and/or alumni partnerships.
* Demonstrated commitment to prioritizing equity and inclusion in the workplace.
* Understanding of the varied career development needs of college students from diverse identities and backgrounds, such as underrepresented/underserved students, low-income students, international students, and first-generation students.
Preferred qualifications
* Experience working within a broad liberal arts and sciences program or college.
* Experience collaborating with diverse stakeholders in an academic environment, such as faculty, staff, students, employers, alumni, and community leaders.
* Experience using on-line career learning and navigation tools.
* Experience with budgeting, grant-writing, and fundraising in a university setting.
* Experience leading a team of professionals through organizational change.

Depending on Qualifications
The typical starting salary for this position is $85,000 – $121,000 depending on qualifications and experience. The full salary range for this position is $84,800 – $157,600. Employees in this position can expect to receive benefits such as generous vacation, holidays, and paid time off; competitive insurances and saving accounts; and retirement benefits.

SuccessWorks mobilizes a $2 million budget to serve L&S students with diverse programming that includes: career fairs and preparation days; employer information and interview sessions; internship and job-shadowing programs; a robust alumni mentoring network; for-credit career development and internship courses; in-person workshops and online training modules; regular diversity/equity/inclusion business roundtable meetings; career integration into the classroom; and regular, direct student career advising (both in-person and virtual) through an innovative “career communities” model.
Last year, SuccessWorks counted more than 25,000 student engagements with career advising, short programs, for-credit courses, or online content. And 25% of these program engagements served underrepresented students. SuccessWorks also awarded more than $100,000 in gift funding for student internships, many with non-profit social justice organizations.
