The Department of Psychology at the University of West Florida in Pensacola, Florida invites applications for two full-time, 9-month
Assistant Professor (tenure-earning) positions. We seek to expand our team of clinical and counseling psychology faculty. Our master’s
program in counseling psychology was established more than 30 years ago and was among the first programs accredited by MPCAC. We are proud
to continue our longstanding history of preparing highly regarded master’s-level psychology graduates for exciting professional
careers as licensed mental health counselors/licensed professional counselors with an emphasis on evidence-based practice, particularly in a
region which has a critical need for mental health providers.
Each position includes the following duties: 1) teaching
clinical/counseling psychology courses at both the graduate (MA only) and undergraduate levels, 2) establishing an active program of
research (area of research specialization is open) 3) supervising graduate capstone experiences (clinical internships), and 4) service to
the department, college, university, and profession. The teaching load will be 9 credit hours, or 3 three-hour courses, during fall and
spring semesters.
Incumbent faculty will be responsible for teaching both undergraduate (e.g., Abnormal Psychology, Theories of
Personality, Health Psychology, Intro to Clinical and Counseling Psychology) and graduate (e.g., Child/Adolescent Counseling,
Psychopathology, Individual Counseling, Pre-Practicum, Ethics, Assessment, CBT, areas of specialty) courses as needed. Successful candidates
will also demonstrate commitment to contributing to existing programs in psychology, and the ability to supervise, mentor, and involve
students in research.
The University of West Florida, a regional comprehensive public university serving 14,000 students, was
established in 1963. It is located on a 1,600-acre wooded campus in the westernmost city in the Panhandle region of Florida (a state with no
income tax). Pensacola, the City of Five Flags and the “cradle of naval aviation,” is home to the US Naval Air Station and the
Blue Angels (and neighboring Eglin Air Force Base). Pensacola is renowned for its white, sugar-sand beaches and the aquamarine waters of the
Gulf of Mexico labeled the Emerald Coast.
Minimum
Qualifications
Doctoral degree from an accredited institution or the highest degree appropriate in the field of
specialization with a strong commitment to teaching, academic research, and service.
Position Qualifications
Minimum requirements for this position include having earned a doctoral
degree in clinical orcounseling psychology from an APA-accredited program. The applicant should be licensed orlicense-eligible to practice
in the State of Florida.
Preferred Qualifications
Area of
specialty is open, but a pediatric/child/adolescent clinical psychology focus is highlydesirable.
