The University of Virginia seeks to hire a highly motivated and innovative event planner to join the Strategic Events team within Donor Relations in University Advancement. The Donor Relations department is focused on building and sustaining lifelong relationships – encouraging people and organizations to get involved, stay informed, and invest in UVA. This position is an integral part of the team managing exciting, high-profile events for the University’s executive leadership, top donors, and partners in the Advancement Community.
The Assistant Director of Strategic Events reports to the Associate Director of Strategic Events and works in collaboration with University Advancement, the Office of the University President, the Office of the Vice President for Advancement, and colleagues across Grounds to develop, plan, and execute a variety of events to cultivate, recognize, educate, and steward donors, prospects, and alumni of the University. The Assistant Director is responsible for brainstorming potential events, creating communications strategies and content, negotiating contracts and bids for services with vendors, and planning and executing all logistics associated with events. The Assistant Director will also prepare formal briefing materials for University leaders and will assist team members with stewardship and other events-related work as needed.

Involves stretches of time standing and moving at events, and the ability to move event materials as needed (~20 lbs).
Some evening and weekend hours are required with this position. This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. The job does require the ability to travel to attend meetings, events, and programs hosted by Donor Relations and other departments within University Advancement.

UVA Advancement offers a flexible and hybrid workplace. This position is based in Charlottesville, VA. All team members must have access to and maintain a secure home office environment with high-speed internet service and work collaboratively with others using a variety of technologies and tools. Depending on the type of position and work performed, or as deemed by manager, some positions may be required to work intermittently in a shared office space.
This position will remain open until filled. This is an Exempt level, benefited position. This position is a restricted position and is dependent upon project need, availability of funding and performance. Anticipated Hiring Range: $50,000 – $60,000 commensurate with education and experience. The University will perform background checks on all new hires prior to employment.
