The Surgical Skills Training Center (SSTC) at the University of Virginia School of Medicine seeks Certified Surgical Technologists (Wage) to support evening and weekend cadaver-based surgical training labs. The SSTC Surgical Technologists will assist medical students, residents, and fellows in medical simulation exercises using human anatomical donors.
Typical duties include:
Assist the Directors and/or the SSTC Lab Manager during cadaver-based surgical training labs.
Assist the SSTC Lab Manager with organization and setup of surgical instruments needed during surgical training labs by organizing and prioritizing the needs of specific labs.
Assist with cadaver positioning and cadaver maintenance before and at the conclusion of surgical training labs.
Wash surgical instruments at the conclusion of surgical training labs.
Launder lab coats, surgical drapes, and towels at the conclusion of a surgical training labs.
Demonstrate knowledge of surgical procedures.
Follow environmental and BSL-2 safety practices.
Interface effectively and professionally with peers, venders, faculty, and students.
Weekend and evening availability is required.
Maintain professionalism, ethical standards, discretion, and respect for the confidentiality of the donors, students, and faculty.
In addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties may be assigned.
The ideal candidate will have strong communication skills, be comfortable working with human anatomical donors, demonstrate a willingness and ability to learn, build partnerships and work collaboratively with others, be resourceful, act with a clear sense of ownership for their work, take personal responsibility for their decisions and actions, and engage with others through honesty, integrity, and authenticity.
Anticipated hiring range: $27-30/hour
This is a non-exempt level, part-time, wage position. The position is fully on-site and required to work evenings and weekends. Hours will vary from week to week, depending on the number of evening and weekend labs.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Education: High School Graduate or Equivalent required. Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technologist Training Program required.
Experience: No experience required.
Licensure: Certified to practice as a Surgical Technologist by NBSTSA (The National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting) or NCCT (The National Center for Competency Testing) required. American Heart Association (AHA) Health Care Provider BLS certification required.
Preferences:
Education: Associate of Applied Science (AAS)
Experience: Experience working with cadavers.

Job requires standing for prolonged periods; Proficient communicative, auditory, and visual skills; Attention to detail; Ability to lift/push/pull > 100lbs. May be exposed to cold, radiation, and blood/body fluids.
