The Department of Business Services at the University of Virginia (UVA) seeks applications for Retail Associate Director in the UVA Bookstore. The Associate Director will manage daily retail operations through guidance and on hands support, develop program policy/procedures around customer engagement, academic mission policies, and procurement of inventory. The candidate will conduct organizational program assessment and evaluation, manage financial goals, and participate in strategic planning. Additional duties include the management of the University of Virginia regalia program for students and faculty, directly supporting the coordination of convocation regalia and event ticket distribution for the Office of Major events. The Associate Director will work in concert with the Executive Director as a collectively, harmoniously unit in pursuit of both academic and fiscal excellence.
Responsibilities include:
Organizing daily responsibilities by priority to ensure both the individual departments and overall goals are met. Staff levels are maintained among all areas of organization according to the needs of the business.
Delegating tasks to management staff according to skills, knowledge and efficiency.
Building strategies and timelines for department projects based on strategic goals.
Overseeing the performances and productivity levels of employees in the organization. Developing performance plans to develop skill set and increase individual performance metrics.
Conducting one-on-one sessions with employees to offer feedback, collaboration and support through motivation and mentoring to manage daily responsibilities in an efficient and effect manner.
Adhere to the academic mission of the University and communicate those policies to the staff.
In addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties may be assigned.
Minimum Requirements
Education: Bachelor’s degree in retail management or related field
Experience: at least five years of retail management experience will be considered in lieu of degree.
Preferred Skills:
Budget forecasting- Preparing and analyzing financial reporting data for management, accurately and to timescales, utilizing various software platforms.
Problem analysis – Resolving problems in a systematic manner with transparency, efficiency, and high level of quality.
Planning and organizing – Enhancing planning and organizational skills that balance work and team support in a timely and professional manner.
Management- Hiring, scheduling, training, and mentoring of exempt and non-exempt personnel while effectively communicating with upper management.
Leadership- Encouraging and succeeding with the development of others to achieve specific team goals.
5-7 years of retail and fiscal management. College retail experience a plus.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities- Supervision of staff of 25+ or more, manage operating budgets, Analyze financial reports, procurement processes and vendor relations.
Computer Skills – All Microsoft products, POS Systems. NetSuite experience a plus.
Physical Demands
This is an active job that requires standing, lifting and sitting at various times of the day. Must be able to lift up to 40 pounds computer literacy is a must. The job does occasionally require traveling some distance to attend meetings, and programs.
Anticipated Hiring Range: $68,572 – $102,857 commensurate with education and experience and includes university benefits.
