The Derré Laboratory within the Department of Microbiology, Immunology, and Cancer Biology at the University of Virginia School of Medicine is seeking a Research Associate to work on projects investigating the molecular mechanisms of Chlamydia-host interactions.
Under the supervision of Dr. Derré, the incumbent will participate in laboratory projects involving a combination of microbiology, cell biology, molecular biology, microscopy and small animals (mice) techniques. Research activity conducted includes, but is not limited to, maintenance of eukaryotic cell lines, general molecular biology techniques (cloning and sequence analysis, immuno-precipitation, RNA purification and western-blot), image acquisition of Chlamydia infected cells by standard and confocal microscopy, analysis of RNASeq experiments and small animal (mice) handling.

Education: Doctoral degree
Experience: None
Licensure: None
Preferred skills include
proficiency in molecular biology, including but not limited to PCR amplification, Western blotting, plasmid construction and cloning
experience in cell culture and sterile microbiology techniques
experience in small animal handling
accuracy and attention to details
work concurrently on several projects and meet deadlines
demonstrated initiative in decision-making and problem solving
computer skills (Word, Excel and PowerPoint),
excellent written and verbal communication skills
self-motivation and eager to acquire new skills
