The Anesthesiology Department at the University of Virginia, Charlottesville, Virginia seeks to recruit a division chief for regional anesthesia. Position Description:
The Division chief of regional anesthesia is responsible for promoting excellence in provision of regional anesthesia across all the clinical locations. They will be also responsible for creating a strategy and a clear vision for the division to contribute to the department’s missions of excellence in clinical care, education, academic pursuits and community engagement. In this position, the division chief will work closely with surgeons to develop clinical pathways and institute practice guidelines for various surgeries. Additionally, they will be responsible for maintaining and improving the quality and efficiency of the services provided in division of regional anesthesia.
The division of regional anesthesia has 10 full time fellowship trained regional anesthesia faculty with a well-documented record of academic achievements. The division has an ACGME (Accreditation Council of Graduate Medical Education) accredited Regional Anesthesia and Acute Pain Medicine fellowship, which attracts two to four fellows per year. The service performs between 7000-8000 regional blocks annually across all our clinical sites.
Responsibilities include:
1) Design protocols and processes to optimize provision of regional anesthesia to patients who will benefit from neuraxial and peripheral nerve blocks in an efficient manner
2) Promote quality improvement efforts within the division.
3) Work with the fellowship director for regional anesthesia and acute pain medicine and the residency program director to create a didactic curriculum for fellows and residents rotating through the service.
4) Play a pivotal role in the development, mentorship, and annual evaluations of division faculty.
5) Promote innovative scholarship and enhance the academic mission within the division and ensure that the department is represented in national subspeciality meetings by various faculty members and trainees.
6) Recruit new faculty to the service to meet the increased demands for regional anesthesia.
Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate will have a track record of academic and clinical achievement along with a national reputation in the regional anesthesia community as an outstanding clinician, educator, and scholar. They should possess excellent communication skills and be able to work collaboratively within and outside the department of Anesthesiology and the School of Medicine. A faculty appointment rank commensurate with the level of experience is available through the School of Medicine, University of Virginia, in Charlottesville, VA.
Qualifications
Qualified candidates must be board certified in anesthesiology and fellowship trained in Regional Anesthesiology and Acute Pain Medicine, have MD, DO, or equivalent degree, and be eligible for licensure to practice medicine in Virginia.
