The University of Virginia Darden School of Business, one of the world’s leading business schools, seeks a Director, Full-time MBA Program. This position partners with the Senior Associate Dean of the Full-time MBA (FT MBA) Program to manage the delivery of the program, academic planning and program operations. The Director oversees all aspects of the implementation of the MBA program including major program activities such as Opening Week, ensures an enterprise perspective regarding operations across all academic support systems, and keeps abreast of competition and best practices in the industry in order to provide world class services to faculty and students in fulfillment of the School’s mission.

The Director partners with the Senior Associate Dean, faculty, and the MBA Program Committee for the development and implementation of academic and program strategies required to achieve this outcome and works closely with the Office of Student Affairs (OSA), Registrar, and other student success units to support the needs of students in the program.
The Director collaborates closely with the Senior Associate Dean for the Full-time MBA Program, the MBA Program Committee, the Senior Associate Dean for Student Engagement, the Professional Degrees team, the Sr. Associate Director of the FT MBA, Darden’s student success units, and University officials. The Director reports to the Senior Associate Dean of the FT MBA.
The Director will fulfill this mission through the following activities:
In partnership with the Senior Associate Dean, provide strategic leadership for MBA program development and delivery:
Lead project management for all required operations and delivery of the program, ensuring visibility into program needs, planning and operations for all stakeholders
Work with the Sr. Assoc. Director in the creation of the full-time MBA Program academic calendar, course alignment, and First Year Core teaching rosters. Collaborate closely with OSA, Career Center, and other units on integration of co-curricular programming and needs alongside the academic program vision
Serve on the MBA Program Committee and other governing committees as appropriate
Coordinate process for new elective approvals, name approvals, and other business of the MBA Program Committee
Coordinate all aspects of First Year Learning Team experience, including Learning Team support resources, logistics, and ongoing engagement.
Develop and support innovative practices across the full-time program. Continually improve the delivery of the degree program’s operations and services with the goal of providing world-class standards of service delivery for all stakeholders
Collaborate and coordinate with faculty and staff leadership to achieve program goals
Develop and ensure compliance with Darden School academic policies and procedures
Provide leadership and management in supervising the Senior Associate Director of the FT MBA program and matrix leadership to other staff working to support FT MBA program operations and needs
Manage all Start of School operations, including:
Co-chair the pre-matriculation group (PMG) and holding planning meetings throughout the summer to plan and execute Opening Week program. Ensure close alignment across pre-mat programming
Work with Assistant Dean for Global Advising and Career Center on planning for International Student Orientation Program (ISOP)
Work with Sr. Assoc. Director and faculty leads to deliver Darden Before Darden (DBD)
Partner with Admissions to communicate all relevant deadlines and ensure a smooth hand-off through all checklist items and pre-arrival elements to ensure a smooth start
Create pre-mat connection groups, Learning Teams and Section formation and engagement over the summer
Coordinate Opening Week and all related programming; partner with OSA for planning all social events, work with student orientation committee; partner with Professional Degrees operations on collaborative and joint engagements
Work with Darden Student Association, the section reps and VPs Honor on the Norms and Honor program day
Manage any surveys, debrief and review of all start of school programming in the spirit of continuous improvement and feedback
Manage MBA Program Operations, including:
Partner with the Director of Academic Operations on the execution of exam periods
Partner with OSA to support student-related academic concerns and issues including leaves of absence, academic standards, special accommodations, etc.
Monitor and manage execution of FT MBA Program budget
Create seating charts each quarter that are reflective of any accommodations
Provide leadership for assessment of learning initiatives and reporting of efforts to reaccreditation organizations
Work with Tutor Chairs on their quarterly review sessions
Work with Registrar on concentrations and STEM designation
With the help of the Program Committee and Career Center, work on career guides
Coordinate academic program activities and events
Coordinate and serve on student MBA Program Advisory Committee
Manage student academic recognitions and award processes in partnership with Financial Aid
Mange the classroom recording request process, including sending reports to faculty at the end of each quarter
The Director for the Full Time MBA Program has two primary internal constituencies:
Faculty – The Director, in partnership with the MBA Program Committee, and the Senior Associate Dean for the Full-time MBA, works with the faculty and its various relevant subgroups in designing and delivering the full-time MBA Program
Students – The Director, in partnership with the MBA Program Committee, the Senior Associate Dean, monitors and manages the student academic experience in the full-time program
Metrics: The Director will be held accountable for Darden’s performance on the following metrics:
Student Satisfaction – student satisfaction metrics related to the academic program experience will be reviewed to ensure services and support is well received and considered top tier
Exam Assessment Management – oversight and management of all exams and assessments
Assessment of Learning – oversight and implementation of all assessment of learning initiatives. Responsibility for capturing and reporting efforts, findings and initiatives to accrediting bodies, and the overarching responsibility to capture, report and build on all assessment of learning efforts across the MBA program
Education and Professional Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree and eight years of increasingly responsible experience required. Master’s degree may substitute for some experience. Relevant exempt level experience may substitute for a degree.
Previous experience with academic programming and student success initiatives.
Excellent office support skills with the initiative and flexibility to take on new projects.
Ability to work under tight deadlines and manage multiple priorities.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Ability to work both independently and also on a team, with strong interpersonal relationship and teamwork skills.
Good judgment and first-class professionalism in dealing with a range of internal and external constituencies and sensitive information.
Ability to translate thoughts and directives from several areas into a cohesive plan of action.
Experience managing logistical and operational aspects of programs, executing strong project management skills.
Ability to coordinate the activities of multiple parties to achieve desired objectives.
Experience collaborating with faculty and senior leadership to foster the curricular integration of programs and the ability to develop and implement program initiatives, curricula, and strategy.
Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite with a high degree of comfort with technology and ability to learn new systems and platforms quickly.
Learning Management Systems (specifically Blackboard and Canvas), survey software, database management preferred.
