The University of Virginia is seeking an Associate IT Systems Administrator to join Facilities Management’s (FM) Technology & Innovation Systems Administration & Endpoint Management team. FM’s Systems Administration & Endpoint Management team is responsible for the administration of Windows Servers, Virtual Machines and endpoints throughout the University Academic and Health System environments. This associate-level position will work closely with higher-level systems administrators on the team and assist with the development, deployment and maintenance of servers, virtual machines, hardware, operating systems and software applications. This position will assist with network security, incident response, system vulnerability scanning and remediation, storage provisioning, system monitoring and other network management tasks. This position will assist in the support of building and infrastructure devices. This position will also assist other Technology & Innovation teams with end-user user support and training, provisioning of network resources and remediation of endpoint issues.
The mission of Facilities Management’s Technology & Innovation department is to provide and support the necessary hardware and software for a highly integrated state-of-the-art office automation system and critical business applications in the Facilities Management organization.

Systems Administration (50%)
Serve as a system administrator on Systems Administration & Endpoint Management team responsible for daily backup routines both for servers and other network attached devices, tape management, network security, provisioning and de-provisioning of accounts, granting directory and file access as needed, managing hard disk space, scripting and network administration automation, and system patching. Install, configure, administer and maintain server hardware, operating systems, virtual machines and cloud services. Monitor system, security and application logs and respond appropriately to incidents, events and alerts. Ensure uptime, performance and resource availability of FM’s servers, IT services and endpoints. Participate in disaster recovery and continuity of operations (COOP) planning for IT systems and services.
Network & Endpoint Security (20%)
Participate in the development and implementation of cybersecurity efforts for FM’s systems, services and endpoints. Monitor the network and IT assets for proper security procedures, software and signs of compromise. Participate in remediation of cybersecurity incidents. Evaluate cybersecurity requirements and develop, recommend and implement technical and operational solutions.
Endpoint Management (20%)
Assist with administration of FM’s endpoint management solution (currently Microsoft SCCM). Assist with administration of FM’s mobile device management solution (currently JAMF). Monitor servers and endpoints to identify security or patching issues and assist with remediation efforts.
Special Projects (10%)
Collaborate with FM T&I staff and other FM business units to develop, design, implement and operate server, systems, network and endpoint special projects.
Minimum Qualifications
High School Diploma At least one year of experience working as a Helpdesk technician or Systems Administrator Must have experience working with Windows Server Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills Must be detailed-oriented with strong organizational skills and have the ability to manage multiple tasks in a busy environment Must be self-motivated, resourceful and interested in new technologies.
Anticipated hiring range:
$55,000 – $65,000
