About Us: As part of Spaces & Experiences (S&E), University Family Housing (UFH) is comprised of two 21 storey residential towers and a unique stock of 83 century homes. The department provides housing to student families, faculty families and long-term residential tenancies in two neighbourhoods on the St. George Campus. This comprises over 3000 adults and children, and UFH provides on-site property management services, as well as educational and recreational programming for tenant families. Your Opportunity:
Working under the direction of the Assistant Director, University Family Housing, the Manager, Admissions and Housing Services provides primary leadership and is responsible for managing the operations of housing admissions and administration. The Manager is responsible for all University Family Housing admissions processes for student families and faculty tenants in Charles Street and Huron-Sussex Communities. This also includes tenancies that are outside these two geographic areas but full within the UFH mandate. The Manager, Admissions and Housing Services manages the admissions function and continuing eligibility status of all residents residing in in the two communities. This role reviews and monitors housing applications, lease agreements and housing vacancies and responds to applicant and tenant issues. The Manager also supervises admissions staff, housing office staff and liaises closely with S&E and other departments in the management of the St. George Campus UFH.
The Manager of Admissions and Housing Services supports the Assistant Director in strategic planning for the areas of admissions and housing services, is an active leader in recommending and implementing training opportunities for staff as well as oversees the StarRez operations and various strategic initiatives to further streamline and automate on various processes and seeking overall improvements for the operations. Finally, the Manager will foster a culture of service excellence and continuous improvement to ensure that residents’ needs are continually met.
Qualifications Required
EDUCATION:
University Degree preferably graduate degree, or acceptable combination of education and experience. Student Life training and administration in post-secondary institutions desirable.
EXPERIENCE:
5 years’ experience in positions of increasing responsibility, including at least 4 years’ experience in mid- management in student life administration. Experience in working in a unionized environment, supervising and motivating staff. Experience de-escalating emotionally charged situations. Experience in advising students, issues management, conflict mediation, student conduct and judicial affairs in an undergraduate residence community. Proven ability to deal with sensitive matters that require professional judgment and confidentiality. Experience improving and enhancing the student experience in residence and in postsecondary settings. Experience interpreting the Ontario Residential Tenancies ACT (RTA) is required.
SKILLS:
Proficiency in use of standard office computer applications (Microsoft office, word processing, spreadsheets, database management, e-mail etc.). Excellent organizational, administrative, managerial and interpersonal skills. Proven crisis intervention and emergency response skills. Must demonstrate excellent oral and written communication skills. Strong analytical skills. Demonstrated understanding of issues of Diversity, especially in urban, multicultural environments. Strong leadership and management skills, with experience managing a team. Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with a driver group of students, faculty, and staff. Knowledge of residence management systems such as StarRez Residence Management System and/or Property Management Software
OTHER:
Must have the ability to work in a busy work environment and manage conflicting priorities, responsibilities, and deadlines. Must have ability to lead and supervise staff in a unionized environment. The incumbent must be able to interpret and apply a broad range of institutional policies and procedures. Must have an awareness of, and commitment to principles of health and safety. Ability to deal with sensitive and confidential issues. Must experience diplomacy and tact and be perceptive in recognizing when a situation requires action or response.
