St. Michael’s Hospital, one of the sites of Unity Health Toronto, is a fully-affiliated University of Toronto academic institution. In conjunction with the University of Toronto, Temerty Faculty of Medicine, Department of Psychiatry, St. Michael’s Hospital is recruiting for a full-time Clinician-Teacher, at the rank of Lecturer or Assistant Professor, to join the Geriatric Psychiatry service. The intended start date is July 1, 2024 or mutually agreed upon date.
St. Michael’s Hospital is located in the heart of downtown Toronto and serves a diverse community, often caring for the most vulnerable and marginalized individuals. Health care services for people who use drugs is an integral part of the work in the Mental Health and Addictions Service and across the hospital.
Applicants must be eligible for full-time clinical academic appointment at the University of Toronto at the level of Lecturer or Assistant Professor. The successful candidate must hold a Medical Degree, be certified in Psychiatry and Geriatric Psychiatry by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (or receive certification by summer 2024) and be eligible for independent licensure in Ontario. The ideal candidate will have exemplary clinical skills, be equipped to work in an active interdisciplinary clinical environment and be dedicated to the highest quality of patient care. Clinical responsibilities will include providing care in the Memory Clinic, joining the geriatric psychiatry consultation-liaison inpatient service and providing outpatient geriatric psychiatry services. Additionally, there are potential opportunities to participate in geriatric psychiatry outreach in the community.
As a full-time member of the Department, the candidate will provide Psychiatry on-call service as part of their clinical responsibilities.The candidate will also have educational responsibilities, which will include clinical supervision, overseeing exams, teaching seminars and participating in educational requirements that are part of the University of Toronto’s Undergraduate Medical Education and Postgraduate Medical Education curricula. The Department of Psychiatry has a strong tradition in the integration of clinical, teaching and research
excellence. Dedication to learner education and involvement in academic activities are essential components of this position.
Remuneration will be based on fees for service, available sessional and stipends, and the Academic Trust Fund.
