Assistant/Associate Professor, Marine Science
University of The Bahamas Small Island Sustainability is pleased to invite applications for the position of Assistant/Associate Professor, Marine Science. This full-time appointment will commence 1st August 2023.
The Small Island Sustainability programme is seeking faculty members with a strong commitment to teaching and research. Applicants will demonstrate the ability to establish a research agenda that addresses challenges and opportunities in the Bahamian marine environment. These include, but are not limited to, marine conservation, sustainable fisheries, ecosystems dynamics, seagrass, mangroves, coral reef ecology, climate change and marine pollution. Candidates who demonstrate the ability to engage in multidisciplinary research that includes social scientists, economists, local communities and policymakers are especially encouraged to apply.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Reporting to the Executive Director the Assistant/Associate Professor shall:
· teach graduate and undergraduate courses in marine sciences and sustainability
· assist in the development and/or revision of programmes and courses
· engage in research.
· Advise and mentor students
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
· Familiarity with the Bahamian natural environment is preferred but not required
· Ability to apply for and earn external grants
· Ability to manage research projects
· Ability to work collaboratively within research teams
QUALIFICATIONS
Candidates must have an earned PhD in marine science, biology, fisheries, oceanography, environmental science or a closely related field from an accredited institution and evidence of research and scholarship.
