Advertised Job Summary:
The Fellow will work with the Principal Investigator and a multi-disciplinary team of collaborators on a National Institutes of Health R01 grant, the ‘Together Everyone Achieves More Physical Activity’ (TEAM-PA) project. TEAM-PA is a randomized controlled trial that will evaluate the efficacy of a group based social affiliation intervention for promoting physical activity and cardiovascular health among inactive African American women. The project uses a group cohort randomized design, which will be implemented at community centers in Columbia, SC and the surrounding area across a five-year period.
The TEAM-PA project includes a multi-disciplinary research team, including Dr. Allison Sweeney (PI, Health Psychology/Nursing), Dr. Dawn K. Wilson (Co-I, Health Psychology), Dr. Nicole Zarrett (Co-I, Developmental Psychology), Dr. Sheryl Mitchell (Co-I, Nursing), Dr. Amanda Fairchild (Co-I, Quantitative Psychology), Dr. Pamela Martin (Co-I, Community Psychology/African American Studies), and James Hardin (Co-I, Public Health).
The Fellow will provide analytic and methodological oversight, contribute to the planning and execution of data analyses, prepare and submit manuscripts, write grant proposals, and develop an independent program of research related to health promotion among women and/or minority or underrepresented communities.
Management of data collection and analysis using various research methods (e.g., accelerometry, surveys, and observational tools).
Oversight for intervention implementation, including process evaluation data. Preparation of scholarly manuscripts and conference presentations. Training and supervision of two part-time research staff and graduate/undergraduate students volunteers.
Assist with grant applications.
Minimum Qualifications:
Doctorate in Psychology, Behavioral Science, Nursing, Social Work, Public Health, Exercise Science, or related field.
Preferred Qualifications:
Doctorate in Psychology, Behavioral Science, Nursing, Social Work, Public Health, Exercise Science, or related field. Excellent written and oral communication skills. Strong leadership skills and potential to mentor graduate and undergraduate students. Experience with management and analysis of complex datasets, including experience with SAS, SPSS, or R. A strong track record of publications in scientific journals. Experience in health promotion, community-based prevention/intervention, and/or health disparities research.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
Ability to communicate clearly, verbally, and in writing, with all constituents of the College of Nursing. Strong interpersonal skills sufficient to inspire, lead, and work effectively with diverse groups. Ability to effectively direct, manage, and lead professional and support staff. Excellent problem solving skills with proven ability to strategize, prioritize, and multi-task to meet goals and deadlines. Understanding and support of the research mission of the College of Nursing. Ability to maintain a high degree of confidentiality. Ability to interpret and apply rules and regulations. Ability to manage work and provide guidance to employees. Ability to make presentations and prepare reports.
