About the Penn Libraries
The Penn Libraries provides a
network of information resources and knowledge services that are vital to teaching, research, and learning at the University of
Pennsylvania. This network includes 19 physical libraries, recognized for their collections, and a digital library known for innovation and
richness of content. Through dynamic programming and exhibitions, and through the acquisition and preservation of literary and artistic
artifacts, the Penn Libraries documents a wealth of social and historical periods, bringing scholarship to life at the University and in the
various communities it serves.
This position works in a team setting to support the research, teaching, and learning services in the
Fisher Fine Arts Library. Responsibilities include development and implementation of library programs and participation in collection
development. The successful candidate may take lead responsibility for the Materials Library, which is part of the Fisher Fine Arts Library
collections and spaces. Responsibilities will include outreach, orientations, class instruction, and consultations. The assistant director
provides services to the Penn School of Design, the Department of the History of Art, collaborates with partners across the libraries, and
contributes to Academic Engagement initiatives, including participation in workshop series and professional development activities. The
assistant director participates in Libraries wide task forces and committees as well as appropriate professional associations. This position
will participate in collection analysis and will be proficient in working with the Libraries integrated library systems. The position
manages up to five full-time support staff and participates in the intern program. In absence of the Fisher Director, this position
exercises supervisory and oversight authority for the facility, all staff, and student assistants.
