Key to the position is developing a strong understanding of the respective departments’ business requirements and operations. The successful candidate must translate those requirements into functional specifications and system design. The Senior Business Systems Analyst must be comfortable serving in a team-leadership role, supervising developers, and other team members to deliver solutions, and acting as a client liaison. The incumbent will often be called upon to manage vendors and external relationships and will be expected to establish superior working knowledge of applications and work collaboratively with the department’s leaders to ensure business objectives are accomplished.
Innovation and creativity are important aspects of the position. The Senior Business Systems Analyst will make recommendations for systems that will yield business process improvements based on application functionality, stakeholder input, and industry standards. The incumbent will review department services, seeking feedback to identify technology solutions that will increase internal customer and end-user satisfactions and will also prepare business cases that will advocate for such opportunities.
They will be responsible for technical and functional analysis of information processing and management systems and will be called upon to do hands-on work with data and report-generating tools to support business decisions. That responsibility will extend to regularly performing technical and functional analysis of information processing and management systems as well as performing feasibility and assessment studies while identifying interrelationships among systems.
The role will serve as a “super user” for enterprise applications and the Senior Business Systems Analyst should be comfortable performing duties that might typically be associated with that of a systems administrator. Due to the nature of services provided by BSD departments, the Senior Business Systems Analysist is considered an essential employee and required to be available beyond scheduled work hours, especially during system implementations, upgrades, or matters regarding the assurance for the operational integrity of the systems.
The position is responsible for ensuring that technology initiatives and controls align with University standards, including matters related to data security, governance, and compliance reporting; application configuration and testing; and establishing processes to ensure business continuity, and emergency contingency. To that end, this role has dotted-line accountability to the Senior IT Director for the division and is a working member of the division’s extended IT team. Responsible for technical and functional analysis of information processing and management systems.
Perform feasibility and assessment studies and identify interrelationships and dataflows between systems.

Qualifications
Bachelor of Science (Computer Science preferred) and 5 to 7 years of experience (including Business Analyst and/or project management experience), or equivalent combination of education and experience is required. 7-10 years of progressive responsibility in performing the associated duties is preferred.
Possess excellent interpersonal and communications skills, both oral and written, including the ability to provide information to senior managers in a clear and concise manner.
Demonstrated ability to identify and analyze complex business problems.
Demonstrated proficiency in generating reports to analyze/reconcile data is required. Working knowledge of commonly available tools and languages to support such analysis is preferred (e.g., SQL, XML).
